Display stations coverage

Post by pshemko »

Hi,

I'm trying to build a transport network that covers whole cities - to almost very last square. The problem I face is that after certain time (moving stops, extending them) I can't tell if any given tile is still covered or not.

Solution to that would be to have a button on the town screen that forces all stations/stops within the city range to display their coverage.

There is a solution. Just not as thorough as your suggestion.

Open up the build station window, enable the option to see the coverage and hover over your existing station to see what parts of town it covers.

There is only one problem with that solution - how do you do that for 50 stations in the same city at the same time ;-) ? Not to mention non-uniform stations :P

Oh, it's easy, you have to buy 50 mouses, connect them to PC, open Build station windows... ;)

I think the plural is "meeces".

Unless you're talking about those furry things that like cheese and make girls squeal. Then the plural is "mice".
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

This won't work well for stations containing of many disjoint tiles, some of them "well hidden" amongst the buildings
If you need something, do it yourself or it will be never done.

My patches: Extra large maps (1048576 high, 1048576 wide) (FS#1059), Vehicle + Town + Industry console commands (FS#1060), few minor patches (FS#2820, FS#1521, FS#2837, FS#2843), AI debugging facility

Other: Very large ships NewGRF, Bilbo's multiplayer patch pack v5 (for OpenTTD 0.7.3)

I agree to that. I didn't say it's the best solution (it isn't :D ), but it might be useful in some cases.

Really? Wikipedia writes this about it:
Wikipedia wrote:The fourth (current as of 2006) edition of The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language endorses both computer mice and computer mouses as correct plural forms for computer mouse. The form mice, however, appears most commonly, while some authors of technical documents may prefer either mouse devices or the more generic pointing devices. The plural mouses treats mouse as a "headless noun."
I'd like to suggest that we'll use 'pointing devices' from now on. That prevents me from starting this kind of pretty useless discussions

Having a station coverage display mode would be very helpful. I know I would use it often.

Yeah, I've always wondered about how big the area is for some of my non-uniform stations is.

Add me to the list of the people really wanting this! Especially in cities with drivethrough bus/tram stations it's hard to tell where the stations are in the first place, which belong together (when building spread stations) and which parts of the city are covered by any service at all.

To take the idea just a little bit further, I'd also like to see a dialogue box that allowed you to view the station coverage for each player in a different colour. Wanna know if an industry is being covered by a competitor? No problem (assuming this gets implemented).

So, I know it is a old topic, but I saw that the developement didn't start (if i don't make a mistake) and I'm also interesting in this idea, I will try to have a look about it.

For some reason I'm wanting to say that I thought somebody was recently working on a patch that highlighted such areas, but I can't see to find it in any other thread. ?(
