Does anyone know of a good shoot em up?

Does anyone know of a good shoot em up?

Post by Deep Blue »

Hey, ive always liked shoot em ups, especially them 2D space shooters. I was hoping anyone here could tell me the name of a shoot em up, whether it is for the pc or anything, with an elaborate weapon system (preferably with the ability to buy weapons between levels). It's kind of got nothing to do with TT or OTTD but I thought that there might be someone here who could tell me since a lot of you are retro or semi-retro gamers i suppose(with whichI dont mean to say that it has to be an old shoot em up)...
Any suggestions?

I played Warning Forever (made by some asian person, but there's an english version available) a while ago. While there's only one weapon (controllable in two ways, one of which is quite interesting) that doesn't upgrade, it's specialitly is how the enemy develops itself between levels, because it works in a way such that it changes its shape and weaponry to adapt to your tactics. So if you attack it at lot at the front, it'll grow long pincers, and if you attack it from far away and stationary, it'll grow homing missiles. It's an interesting game with a lot of replayability factor.

s***, warning forever looks great, but windows only.

actually, i played one game thousands of times when i was a kid, and i'm still looking for it. it's a 2d scrolling shooter, with fire under space bar. the intro screen was with some moon, and maybe some dude, and called "space whatever". ofcourse, i can't recall, i'm not even sure about the "space" part, but i've searched for it for ages. furthermore i can recall the second level, which was a meteor storm-thingie. and it all fitted one 1,4" disc. :) if anyone even remotely thinks he/she/it knows about it, please let me know.

astath, i wish i knew.... im looking for several games myself... i know of a pc game called 'Ravage', which was awesome and had everything i described before. however, i only have the shareware version and living outside the us (although the company is probably no more either) i have no way of finding it for download or sale. even google wont come up with any hits other than other games with that name....
And im still looking for any pc schmups that worked similar... i know there is a bunch of them with space theming and such.... not yours though.... lets just hope some expert in it will come by and tell us :p

maybe you need something like DosBox, if it's an old game.

Scorched earth, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorched_E ... er_game%29

Turn based, tanks shooting at each other, buy new weapons between fights (if you have any money). Not *impressive* graphics, but good game play - you can get really *mad* at the AI when it mortars you into the ground :-)
