FreeTrain translation in progress [DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE]

There's a new effort to 1) translate FreeTrain to English and 2) make it cross-platform.
At the moment this will only be of interest to people who can compile C#/.NET stuff themselves but soon there should be a download.
Check it out:
http://freetrain.sourceforge.net/
Update: sneak preview download available
here.

Now with build instructions for SharpDevelop:

Work towards an executable download is slowly progressing.
Btw, for those who have no idea what FreeTrain is, screenshots:

Is it me, or does it look a lot like SimCity 2000?

Or, closer to AIV Network$.
I am looking forward to a release of this, I've been sort of following the threads on this game. Looks cool. I liked the old AIV Network$, which was a successor to A-Train.
To that effect, I believe SimCity2000 used the same graphics engine as A-Train.

Update: game now builds and runs for at least 1 of the developers. The translation is complete.
Next step is making sure it runs for every1 then releasing a binary. After that it's porting to SDL so it's cross platform.
If you want to know what the fuss is about, check out this awesome composite screenshot:

You've got a possible tester here when you can get it to build in Mono/SDL.
Sounds interesting

It sounds like the sort of thing I'd be interested in. I like the fact that it is like TT in the respect that it doesn't push itself on the graphics front and does what it knows what it can do and not any more.

omg yay, I cannot wait to play it.... I wonder if it will run on PSP someday

Well we are getting dangerously close to making a working Windows build. All known features from an experimental branch have been merged, there are now 2 people working on the code including one of the people who worked on the Japanese original.
Basically, progress is definitely being made.

Just looked at the giant screenshot. It looks very very nice... What sort of map dimensions will this do?

Good question. I'll try and find out when I have time to update things... it now runs from VS2005

so we are closing in on a release. I'm a bit out of sync though (2 other guys are doing most of the work).

Out of sync... are you not using something like CVS or SVN?

Sure they are: it's been part of my "daily" svn repository update script

This does not necessarily mean I compile it every time there's an update. So it's only fair for an official dev to be "out of sync", from time to time.
Speaking of which (yes, I know, I lurk a lot)...

THis game has some original graphics from A-Train especially, still I would have prefered if the original and maybe the translated one would have AIV network$ graphics. Is it possibile to use in this program something like a newgrf for OTTD?

@andy_blah, as far as I know, FreeTrain is based on hundreads of plugins, so adding another one with extra building wouldn't be a problem I suppose

Updating the graphics at some point is part of the freetrain.sourceforge.net project roadmap. We're not sure how we are going to do it though.
Also it disturbs me that you say it includes graphics from A-Train because obviously that is not acceptable from a licensing perspective.

I`m sorry if I offended you. Also never mind with what I said about Free Train`s graphics.

Disturbed != offended. Good to hear your comments on the graphics was just conjecture.
