New terrain grfs

Posted: 21 Mar 2007 07:32

This post will serve as the download post. I'll keep it updated with the latest version of the graphics

I've created some graphics for the terrain in the temperate climate. The grf file replaces most of the terrain. It does not replace terrain under the railroad or road, nor under any building. Download and tell me what you think

New terrain graphics
New selectors

Currently supports: OTTD And TTDPatch
P.S. This is my first Grf file! :D
Enjoy!
Thing still to be added: Rocks, better water, snow.

I like the land, it looks more realistic, but the water looks a bit choppy. :P
Nice work! :]

Here are the screenshots. They were to large to fit in to the previous post

Nice, but somehow it's hard to distinguish the slopes from ditches.. If you know what I mean.. I'm afraid I have no idea how I'd fix it though..

These grass-tiles are very nice since it emphasizes tracks and trains far more then the default-tiles. But it's really not too easy to figure out wether you have a ditch or a slope...

Maybe, as for slopes and ditches, you can add some extra shading... Just like in real life. It looks really splendid though!

Terraforming

Okay, I've done some terraforming :D

It seems like most of you had problems identifying the slopes from the ditches. I changed the shading so that it can be identified.

As for the water, it will have to wait since it is one of the hardest parts. The animated colours never seem to come out correct!

The colours are a bit too bright imo, but I have no idea what sort of colours are available with the ttd palette, whether or not it would be possible to de-saturate them a bit

As I have no time now to try, I'll ask!
Is it working with TTDPatch too? Sry if its OT or smth!

Oh a similiar project to the one i did but you did a great job on making slopes easily seen
Keep this up!

I think you should use the water from newater.grf (with permission of course).

Great work!! :D

Just a suggestion - maybe you could keep your first post updated with the new versions when you release them. I always find that is the neatest way when people release patches/grfs as it saves trawling through the thread for a quick update.. :)

Thanks for all the positive replies.

Possibly. I don't actually use the standard pallette. I just 'unzip' the grf files, clear them and save them as something different. That way I know the colour I use will be the colour displayed. Anemated colours can be a bugger though. :? I'll see what I can do.

Thanks. Yes, I am currently making the rocks, but they are much harder than the terrain. I'll post a screenshot later today.

The water was a problem. The animated water colourqs are extremely difficult to get correct. I'll see If I can get permission. I just have to find out who made it.

I don't know. For some reason my TTDPatch doesn't work anymore. I'm still trying to figure it out. Could someone possibly test it?

Great Idea! I'll change the post later, when I get home. (I am not now)
Just one other thing. I've checked the other climates, and for some reason their terrain gets replaced too. Even Toyland! I don't know why this happens.

Here are the screenies of the current rocks. I think they suck. Anybody got some tips on drawing them?

May I quickly ask what trainset is used on the screenshots.
*points to the long white gapless trains*

Obey the standard lighting setup?

In TTD, light comes from the east, not the north-east.
