I mean, a set so that one can fully run OpenTTD without importing something for Britain or Abandonwareing it.

I'm guessing he means a complete replacement graphic set to use with openttd that is free and does not require the graphics off the transport tycoon CD. I don't think there is such a set yet, but when the new 32bpp graphics and engine are done there will be.
If that is indeed what your asking,

They are being worked on but its a slow process to draw and code all the replacements. When they are there Im very sure they will be released.

Yep, you're right.
Feel free to close this.

Actually, I don't understand this. We already have total town replacements, road replacements, train replacements, plane replacements, ship replacements and yet we cannot pick one to become the standard. WHY???
I'll vote for the UK renewal sets. They look complete.

But Pikka's UK stuff doesn't replace every single graphic in the game... that is the thing. Also a lot of people still play with the original graphics.

That is not the point. My point is that we have almost everything needed for a complete release, but we aren't interested in completing it. (and unfortunately, I'm not going to have the time to complete it any time soon)
In fact, I do not mean that we should completely remove original graphics support. We can simply separately install them if wanted, and I would admit that even I myself will use the original graphics.
If the distribution comes with nsignalsw.grf, I can't understand why ttrf.grf can't be included.

Where are the toyland replacement graphics? Where are the face replacement graphics? And there are countless other graphics that do not have a replacement (yet).

What is ttrf.grf?

I think it's possible to make a run for it. Stuff which would have to be done:
1. OTTD code must be changed to be able to run on newgrfs only (OR the dirty way: hack some graphics from popular newgrfs into mocked-up data files)
1. Appropriate newGRF should be chosen
2. The artists should be contacted with about legal stuff (do they agree for their graphics to be distributed with the release)?
3. Missing pieces of graphics should be drawn (new toolbars, land, etc.);
4. Sounds should be made (they're also required!)
5. Music, maybe?
This could function quite healthily as an ottd branch (or spinoff). Some of you would say it's not worth it (cause 32bpp is on the way), I just say it's possible. (All depends on the artists. AFAIK some of them are unwilling to license stuff for OTTD.)
Comments welcome!

Imaginner,
I think that theoretically it would be easy to start but the problem is actually
getting these bits done. The dev team are working towards it, Im very sure, but until someone does a decent toolbar, decent sounds, decent portrait graphics etc. it just wouldn't be possible. Thats why it seems like not a lot is happening - because the team are waiting until people make the necessary parts. Then, the dev team can work on bringing it together (in a stable format).
-Thats how I interpret it all anyway.

Perhaps you're asking the impossible, since there are no replaced graphics so far. If an artist could do, let's say, the trains, and they were replaced and released with the OTTD binaries, then I bet you'll get to a full replacement set sooner, now they sit half-abandoned in a tracking table.
OTOH, I feel it could be major work to keep track on what graphics has OTTD to get from the original files and what graphics from the new grfs.
And I'm talking about a 1:1 replacement, which means only graphic work.

I thought that more work is done towards 32bpp, with a plan for complete replacement only on the new engine. Like it's not worth the effort to make replacements now, because soon there would be new graphics engine.
The unanswerable question is: when will 'soon' be

I'm pretty sure a lot of people won't use 32bpp. Loses the charm might be one of the answers, I still think it's too large, etc
The question would be if there's a possibility to create something that keeps the quality of the original.

Not to start going O/T with this one but Im one of those Raven talks about. TTD is so great through playability and because it doesnt try to be anything special. The 'cute' little graphics are endearing.. Im interested to see the 32bpp but it certainly wont replace the current graphics to me.

My heart is divided between the fun in 3dmodelling an the expression 'every pixel counts!'. As a matter of fact, I'm devoted more towards pak64 graphics than anything else.
I've got an idea circling my mind, what about a XIXth set to replace toyland?
I've got enough stuff to create the base, then we need to work on the pixel cleaning process.
