See http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/32bpp

To put it briefly, it is an ongoing attempt to rewrite the OpenTTD graphics engine so that it can display sprites with 32 bit colors. There are test versions floating around and people, namely Sergej in his thread, are using them to develop and show off 32bit graphics. I believe OpenTTD 0.7 will be the first version fully in 32bit colors.

Because the newgrf support in OTTD doesn't support new industries at the moment, but is in development afaik.

Yes, according to the roadmap at the wiki, newindustries is currently scheduled to be included in OpenTTD 0.6.

You have to compile the 32bpp branch yourself.

There are only _very_ few good looking graphics that have been assembled in that format. Almost all graphics that you can find on the wiki are not available in that format.
So you probably have to fetch the 32bpp graphics yourself and assemble them in a format that 32bpp OpenTTD understands.

If you have no idea how to compile or what svn is or how (Open)TTD(Patch)'s sprite system works, I strongly suggest you not to try it.
