first post here, so i'll start by saying; Hello! and great job with OTTD
i've been useing the Planeset newgrf (1), however it doesent appear to be the version i was looking for, i've seen screenshots of aircraft in-game that are listed in the development pages (2) that don't seem to be in the version i have.
i'm specificley looking for the patch or version that has more helicopers and the Bell V-22 Osprey, as i'm playing a lot of small maps right now where better VTOL aircraft would be usefull.
Can anyone tell me where to find the version that has these aircraft?

OK use the first link and go to the downloads page. Then download the windows version of the planeset and not the OTTD version (make sure you are running the latest nightly version of OTTD first).
Then adjust the openttd.cfg file to reflect the new grf file (should now look like this)
and then have many happy returns playing with your helicopters

Actually, to experience the planeset in full, try the MiniIN.
7007 seems pretty stable to me

OT: If you like the planeset, try pikkabird's AV8

I'm told the PlaneSet works properly in the recent nightlies.

"Actually", the MiniIN at one time had better Planeset support than the trunk. But now Cargo Subtypes/Livery Refits had been added to the trunk, its Planeset support is the same as the MiniIN.

The next version of the MiniIN should be even more stable, a few nasty bugs have been fixed.

About the bugs: What in the world is this? Not really a bug but it' very annoying

I'm confused. That looks like a RV-related or orders-related bug, but it can't possibly be, seeing as how it was posted in a thread about the PlaneSet.

Ya, I kow I was posting a bit off topic but at that moment, I was talking about the miniIN. Sorry for the confusion
PS. This bug is related to all vheicles, not just road. It's just that road vheicles are the most annoying seein as that I have 300 rvs

BlasterTransport: Please post MiniIN problems in the MiniIN problems thread.
I have found the cause of your bug, it is a savegame version problem. New games work ok but savegames from previous MiniIN versions will give this problem.
Back on topic: the very best support available for Planeset in OTTD is the utf-8 branch. In addition to the trunk support for Planeset, the utf-8 code can display the livery names for the Ruslan in Cyrillic text.

Not clearly with one letter "o"
Aeroflot-Аэрофл

And the "ф" (in Аэрофлот) is not an "ф" but "fi"(φ) -greek letter. The circle of "ф" is not complete and half of the vertical part is missing. That's how it looks like.

*checks his UTF-8 encoding*
http://software.hixie.ch/utilities/cgi/ ... f8-decoder reports that my bytes (D0 90 D1 8D D1 80 D0 BE D1 84 D0 BB C3 B3 D1 82 [0]) decode to:
Code: Select all
0410 CYRILLIC CAPITAL LETTER A
044D CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER E
0440 CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER ER
043E CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER O
0444 CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER EF
043B CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER EL
00F3 LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH ACUTE
0442 CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER TE
As raw characters:
Аэрофлóт
Assuming that is correct, the acent is my fault, but the phi versus ef thing is not.
When I was doing my research, every place I found "Аэрофлóт" the "ó" was a Cyrillic small letter O followed by a combining acute accent. Since TTDPatch doesn't support combining characters, I used the closest thing I could find.
I've changed my local copy to contain a Cyrillic small letter O, instead of the Latin small letter O with acute.
[0] This is from the first string in sprite 28, for you NFO/newgrf people.

Yeah... can't understand why gkirilov advised to use greek "phi" instead of cyr "ef" (full circle is 100% correct), maybe we just had misunderstood him

If you're talking about his most recent post in this thread, I though he said that the character that is supposed to be an ef looks like a phi, and I agree.

Yeah, about it... so, i was the slow one

Look at the picture in the attach...
1) Current OTTD utf-8 branch font draws full circle, as you can see (black)
2) Partially i can agree... about that 2 pixels marked with green on top of the middle "column". But it's not compulsory (so for me it's impossible to confuse "ef" w/o that 2 pxs with another english/cyrillic letter, and it's kinda unusual to find greek "phi" in game like TTD). Top part (relative to circle) of vertical section may be shorter than bottom one.
But all fonts on my PC utilize equal heights... tt. So, maybe, it's officially "right", but there won't be any problem with the understanding of the letter. And, at least for me, "right" way is ugly, so the best decision - 1px-height addition on top of the letter

Unfortunately PlaneSetw won't use unicode glyphs without a specific sprite font loaded.
Which is a shame, because when using FreeType it's not needed...

*looks at DarkFen's location*
*knows Grigory's location*
I'll trust the Russians to know their alphabet.
I still think it looks like a phi, though. Then again, I can't find the difference between the Cyrillic and Latin 'o's either.
Peter: Is there any way I can detect that the OpenTTD in question has UTF-8 support? If so, I'll check for that too, and load the strings if either the GRF or libfreetype is available

Could you tell me which system font utilizes OTTD? Can't find anything similiar

What I said might have been a little incorrect. The circe is complete but as DaleStan said it looks like the greek "phi"-
φ. The difference can be cleary seen only with zoom.
The correct way to write the cyrillic is shown in the attachments.
One of them is a screenshot from word and the other one is what I think should look like in OTTD.
As for the "o", DaleStan, there is no difference between the english letter "o" and the cyrillic. So the "`" can be also removed. The capital and the small "o"s are also on the screenshot. (See also the
