I'm not quite sure what you mean by getting them to work, you just drag the track and build the vehicles just like a regular railway. monorail isn't available from the start of the game though, appears around 2000 I believe. I think some newgrf sets eliminate monorail in favour of electrified railways though.

They arrive between 96 and 98 i believe

Thanks guys but my current game is at 2032 using the latest nightly build and all through the game i do not see in the train or track menu where they are. Maybe its so obvious that ive overlooked it.

Forgot to mention i have electric rails newgrf working.

OK - I realise how stupid i've been.

I didnt realise that you needed to hold down left mouse button when you are on the train symbol on the top of the screen.

All is working well , sorry for taking up everyones time

I also had the same problem, where I couldn't work out how to build monorail for a while.
Seemed a bit quirky, how something so obvious could remain so hidden. I think it must come from using only Windows, and doing things without thinking like, checking for menus.

Either that or it’s something to do with the subliminal messages flashing too fast to consciously see...

I always thought the GUI needed some minor changes.
I made mocks a long while ago to illustrate how.

I agree. Thinking back, if the menu was like your mock I doubt I would have had the same problem.

A 5-10 minute tutorial would also have helped me. When I'm learning a game I pretty much always quickly run throught the turorial. It seems that no matter how self-explainatory and user freindly a game is, I always pick up a couple of things from doing the tutorial - unless I know it really well. Often they are little time saving tricks which you don't always think of.

That is something that OTTD seems to lack. I think it's assumed that, being such an old game, playing the game is common knowledge.

Come to think of it... I do vaguely recall a tutorial... maybe that was a halucination. :P

Ah. If they removed them from OTTD, that means there were some in the origonal TT! I'm not crazy!

Aww that's no fun, then! *gibbers*

Yes there where tutorials in TTO, i remember sitting down for the first time (when i was 13!) and working through them, and getting addicted instantly!

There were tutorials in TTD too. You can still test them with the patch, but the various patch settings and whatnot break it, which is why OpenTTD removed them. Why keep broken things?
