My 3D attempt (hanging glass building)

Well, I been fooling arround the forum and the OTTD's GFX Wiki and I decided to start building one of the constructions awaiting to be modeled.
I choose the 1x1 hanging glass building, cause as im still learning how to fully use 3DSMax8, I thought it would be an easy start, though it's shapes are quite simple, just basic cilinders.

I know you all recommend to use blender but I never heard of it until I got here and I had some background using 3DMax so here is what I build in 1.30hs approx.

Ill make the final touches in blender with the lighting and the camera. Also I will need some help with texturing, cause I never texured anything complex in 3DMax (and offcourse blender).

I would really like to get similar textures that you guys are using on the building renders posted on the forum, is there a special post with them? maybe a .rar? I searched the wiki and the textures there are quite a bit limited, I loved the ones you been using.

Well, that's all, thanks for looking and reading.
P.S.: I know it looks a bit phalic but I'm willing to change that. As everybody declares about they english spelling, I think mine's pretty good (though my main languaje is spanish), please if you detect anything miss-spelled please tell me!!! I want to learn from mistakes!

Hello! :D
Sorry to burst your bubble, but EVEN THOUGH IT HAS NOT BEEN POSTED ON THE WIKI!!!, I believe someone has allready built that house. But never mind, since it has not been posted on the wiki, its still officially free I guess.. But Im new here too, so perhaps Im not the one to open my mouth about this :D
Have you found the standard lighting file yet? Its posted on the wiki somewhere.. :)
However, I THINK that most people here would like it if your model had more detail too it, like windowframes perhaps.. But then again, Im also new here, so dont take my word for it! :P
Personally I hope you stick around here and help everyone here to build up the game! :D
About your english: Im swedish, so dont take my word for this either, but I believe you should replace the '"though"its shapes are' with '"since" its shapes are', but im not sure. :) And hey, same applys to me, please correct my english too, I too want to learn from my mistakes!
BTW, there is a .blend thread too where you can post things like this, thats where most models has been posted!

Thanks for the advice, anyway the model ain't finished yet, the windows, textures and detail structures are still WIP.

I browsed the .blender topic and I found that Crazy Vaclav did this model, but what I didn't find is a "here is the place to post models so go ahead" so I created a new thread.

I thougth it would be more organized to have models arranged by threads and not in 1 topic, cause in this way is easier to give feedback.
Offcourse if this is against forum rules please move it!

Thanks for my english correction :)

EDIT: Im downloading Blender right now, I'll try to export this model into .dxf (like someone said in one topic a long time ago, sorry i can't remember who did) and I'll try to render/finish work with it.

Hi, I use max as well. Its best to make quite high detailed meshes, that require minimal relience on the textures I have come to conclude. Cause then the mesh transfers over and will leave an easier job in blender; a program I can't use.

Wich textures do you specifically want, cause if I have any I'll upload some, cause I've created quite a few of my own.

The blend thread seems to just be an all models thread, so sticking stuff in there is probabley a good bet.

Don't bother correcting my English, casue I aint got a chance in hell, although Field-Mouse's correction looks correct

Now im talking about this very texture, everyone uses it, so I think it's a standard. Thanks in advance!

I think that texture is just created in blender itself. It was originally used on 25 by 25 meter squares. Dmh_mac made it I beleive. Making a standard ground texture was 'litrally' just being discussed in the blender thread.

Ok no problem... I'll just photoshop it... Then I'll probably replace them and problem solved! :)

That's a very good model, imo. Keep it up! :D (I wish I could make such things)

It's not that difficult, I learned 3DMax in a couple of weeks with Lynda.com's tutorial videos.
It's a 2CD distribution with a lot of .mov files and also with excersices. If you are interested in learning give it a try!
