[WIP] British Trackside Pack

This is a smallish set aiming to provide some of the lineside buildings and structures found on and around the rail network of Great Britain. This ranges from signal gantries and platelayers huts to stations and MPDs, and possibly the odd donkey or two.

So, what needs doing?

Ideally, every single building or object that does exist, has existed and will exist in, on and around any British railway.

Of course, the above causes severe testicular cancer, so instead, we won't do that. I would recommend drawing any you deem significant from the rail network;

Kings Cross, Manchester Piccadilly, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, whatever takes your fancy. This set isn't planned, isn't organised and isn't very good at jokes, so draw whatever the heck you feel like drawing. It's open to anyone who wishes to contribute. This not only means sprites, but information, ideas, rain coats, pictures and the all illusive...

Code: Select all

CODE!
So hey, why not lend a helping hand/pencil/keyboard/stress ball today, and get your free imaginary service pack.

Complete:
Semaphore Gantry (Waypoint)
Colourlight Gantry (Waypoint)
Platelayers Hut (Waypoint)
Foot Crossing (Waypoint)
Mail Hook (Waypoint)

In Progress:
Great Central style stations (Station)
Engine Sheds (Station/Depot)
MPD for Steam Era (Station)

To do list:
Start Servicing MPD for Diesel Era (Station)

I'm open to suggestions. If there's anything you want to see in this, just say so and provide a good quality picture.

Cheers.

Intresting what about maybe having a station with a water and a sand tower in it.

I just think that if you do that we need a small smattering of stations from right across the country... Though I like the signal ideas :D.

Signals, for example, are quite easy to code. Just take a look at some NFO thingies on this and ask around at the channel. I cannot code either but I know how to code signals.

And doing the positioning of signals can be done easily with GRF Maker (poke Szappy for this).

Is that "my keyboard is missing the necessary keys for me to type the characters 0..9, A..F, and *", or "I refuse to learn how to code"?

The I cannot code part means that I can't get this all done as quick as i'd like, not "can you code this please". I WILL attempt.

If I fail, then I'll keep trying.

Just for the records: nearly all of NewStations´ signal boxes are from the U.K.

Yes, I noticed that they were in the british style, I'm just aiming for ones more local to me.

If I like the artwork and how the project is progressing, I may be able to code for you people, just bear in mind, I have a LOT of projects to code as it is, so if I can't find the time, then bad luck.

I've had a look and I reckon I'll give that a try soon.
And thanks for your offer Aegir, it's welcomed even if it's a maybe.

So, the pencils have been out and I've got these to start us off. The mail hook on the left, and one of the views for the semaphore gantry.

The gantry could do with more texture, but everytime I try, it looks distorted when zoomed out.

It might be real size, but that's way to small to see in TTD. You'll never be able to tell wether the signal shows red or green...

Looks nice tho.

The gantry isn't a signal, it's a waypoint.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that.

Tweaked the mail hook a bit, completed the gantry and also I drew a platelayers hut, (another waypoint) perfect for sheltering from the elephants during track work. I mean elements, elements.

[edit] Added a modified Loughborough North Box below. This is still being worked on, and it need a lot of work. (it's terrible)This is the real one.[/edit]

Interesting sounding project. This is the kind of thing I'd like to get involved with more than the revived BR set (though obviously they would compliment each other).

I detect quite a strong Great Central theme in your ideas - sometihng I'm more than interested in myself! Part of me is tempted to go away and do Hotchley Hill box right now!

Well, you learn something new every day. I wasn't aware of that :)
