Combined American Signal Set
Download here.
As requested by krtaylor, I've updated the old US Signals to be PBS compatible, and put them into a grf with my searchlight signals. I hope they are satisfactory...
To use them, you have to set grf parameters. There are three, one each for temperate, arctic and tropic, and they mean:
1 = US Semaphores, Searchlights
2 = US Semaphores, B&O CPLs
3 = Searchlights, Searchlights
4 = Semaphores, Colour Lights
5 = Searchlights, Colour Lights
So
newgrf/USSIGZ.GRF 0 2 3
Will not use this grf in temperate
Will have semaphores and CPLs in arctic
Will have searchlights in tropic
If the parameters are not set, you'll get option 4 (semaphore, colour) in all three climates.

no offence, but the semephore signals, appart from pointing the other way, they look more like UK singals... are the american signals suposed to look like that?
JPG SUX!!! USE PNG!!!
There are times when JPG is useful, TTD screenshots is not one of them. Please use PNG instead.

bobingabout, the UK had many different semaphore signals inherited from many different railway companies, as did the US. It stands to reason that some would be the same, especially as railway companies would often copy good ideas that they saw elsewhere.

Whoa, how did I miss this thread? I was wondering what had happened to my request - and now I see it was granted months ago! I'll post this update to the US Set website right away.
One change I should mention - I've renamed the files to follow the same standard convention almost everything else in TTD uses, where you add "w" to the name for the Windows version, and don't have any addition for the DOS version. You've got the opposite above. Can you make this change in your post, so as to not cause confusion?
And a question - You mention the use of the parameters. What happens if you don't use any parameters? By default, it should use the bullseyes in Tropic, and the semaphores/color-signals in Arctic and Temperate.

Then it just skips everything and you don't get any signals from this grf.krtaylor wrote:And a question - You mention the use of the parameters. What happens if you don't use any parameters?
I've deleted the attachments so people won't get them with the wrong names now.

Ah, that would explain why I didn't get them the first time I tried it. I do think I prefer them to appear by default, without parameters, because that's more agreeable to newbies. But thanks for the coding job! I've posted them, and updated the Readme - please take a look and let me know if I got anything wrong there.

Well, you still have the release date of April 6 2004, and old info (like it "does not yet have special configurations for PBS blocks", and the info about what signals should appear in each climate; that is now configurable). The info on the pre-signal indicators is wrong (they now use the standard grey/yellow/yellow pattern). The searchlight signals in this version were drawn by me, and the other signals were quite extensively modified, so I'd like an artist credit too.krtaylor wrote:I've posted them, and updated the Readme - please take a look and let me know if I got anything wrong there.
OK, take a look now.
Say, if you're in the mood for coding, would you be interested in coding the Japanese signals? They're all drawn, just need the coding.

You will find the sprites for the signals, at the bottom of the Trains page.
