Changing Toyland to futuristic space colony

Hi People

I've been playing TTD for longer than I can remeber, I would just like to say thanks to everyone who has made patchs/mods for this game, because they keep it alive.

Anyway iv'e started making my own mod, I don't want to make a new train or new building NO i want to make a new world!

Below you will see a couple of pictures (these are the first versions, they will probably change over time) the link below is the bigger version of the landscape picture

Image Image
http://www.pincushion.biz/asteroid.jpg

I'm sure you have noticed we need some more buildings drawn, since I wouldn't of thought you would have houses made out of toys on an asteroid.

As I said before i'm pretty new to moding this game so if anybody would like to help, I need graphics for trains, buildings, industries...everything really also some help with coding would be good, im getting the hang of it but a bit of help would be good.

If your interested, i will describe briefly the type of world i'm trying to make, first of all Docks are changed to Space docks and ships to space ships, aircraft=space ships, helicopters=rockets, trucks=moon bugies. that kind of thing, but of course we need a new set of industries e.g. ice mines, ice is changed into water, then into oxygen and hydrogen, we would also need some sort of domed complex for growing food.

I'm sure some of you will have much better ideas than me.

If you want to help, reply to this or contact me Peter@pincushion.biz (thats my msn email to).

THANKS

I believe we already have a mars conversion but a moon conversion we didnt have. So might be interesting to see what you have come up with...

I WANT I WANT I WANT I WANT!

:D

This is rocking my socks off right now, :D.

I've always wanted to do a futuristic sci-fi conversion of TTD, I'll be following this one ;).

Suggestion for new plane: USS Enterprise NC-1707D.

I've got to stop watching Star Trek: The Next Generation in the morning. Seriously, though, this looks great, be nice for a change. I tried George's Mars conversion, but didn't like it.

Nice idea but I think you should add some more variety into the greyscale palet. I'm curious what you come up with to include :). Perhaps you can easily adapt some of the more modern buildings from TTD to the moon climate.

Hi Aegir

Just looking at some of your projects, very very cool, love the japan set.

by the looks of things you have done a lot of graphics for ttd, would you be able to help with my moon project, at the moment it's me doing graphics and coding and my brother doing graphics.

I'm going to try and get my other brother to work on coding new industries and stuff, he can pick up any computer language in 10mins so i'm sure he will be a great help.

any help would be great.

Peter

I see there is posible 2 coders for ttd and coders are always welcome!
ofcourse if they want after their set!

more object

Hi Hyronymus

I like the idea of more color and more objects on the map, problem moons/asteroids tend to be fairly empty of everything, any suggestions?

at the moment iv'e swaped the squares where trees are for different crator pictures, which means the maps look a bit varied, but i agree we need more.

Try mixing some light shades of yellow and brown, but do it sparsely. A little darkblue instead of black might make the 'water' look better.

moon map

Hi again

I just wanted to let people know, this moon world i want to create, i don't just want to make new images, i want to change how you play the game, nothing major e.g.

iv'e played ttd in every way you can, iv'e made over £100 million a year (without inflation) and at one time i think i had around 750 trains, 500 ships, 400 aircraft, and 900 trucks (quite proud of that sorry)

but in every game i play i end up using trains as the main vehicle, and of couse everything running on maglev.

Some ideas i had was, bearing in mind ships now =space ships, go a lot faster, Aircraft/rockets carry more and go even faster, but truck/moon buggies carry less

It would also be good if supplies like oxygen wern't taken to a town/colony it would start to decrease in size. (that might be hard to do, not sure)

also instead of monorail/meglev just being a faster upgrade what if we had one that the vehicles went very fast but didn't have much cargo space and the other have vehicles that go slower but hold large cargo amounts.

What do you think?

Maybei you could als change trees intro craters to get more variation ...

Maybe change trees into craters, to have a more random crater variation.

Aegir and I were discussing soemthing similar to this awhile back. We were thinking Mars as a base, but making it more realistic than the current Toyland-To-Mars conversion.

It should be possible to have towns behave that way, aftera ll, look at snowline towns or desert towns if they don't get food.

We weer thinking more along the lines of hovercraft and such rather than spacecraft, but your idea is interesting. Personally, I think a planet would be a better base than an asteroid though, more space ;) (No pun intended). Transporting goods between colonies on a group of asteroids however would be VERY interesting.

Trains, being the biggest thing in TTD, would need to be reduced to a secondary role, I'd suggest a very low powered fuel-cell loco running on rails to start off, small freight cars, and go up from there, with Maglev much later. The limited resources of a colony won't be able to handle a Maglev system right off the hop.

I'm keeping an eye on this, although my current backlog of projects prevents me from taking part at the moment.

Love the landscape as well!

With the current graphics, where water is space, we can even have ships as spacecraft! :D

Hi all

this picture has a spaceship i stole from another game (Escape velocity Nova, Great game!) i don't plan on using it but i thought it might give people an idea of what tdd would like with spaceships.

Image
( i don't like the bridge anymore, so i will be changing it sometime)

Also i know using an alien planet would have more color and objects, but i just like the idea and look of a group of asteroids with colonies trading resources

Thanks for all the interest in my project, but as of yet no offer to draw any graphics...hint hint :D

How will you handle planes' shadows? They should have shadows over the ground but none of the water/space.

Oh, and what will trees be made into? Craters? Heh, it'd be so weird if the Local Authority..ok...haha..I can't..
