PBS is removed and not supported because of problems (as you can see)

Your trains are too long, or the station is too short.

PBS also shows errors with double signals on 2 sides of the station, as you can see in the picture in your starting post

simply that is a stupid signal layout... if you have 2 PBS blocks near, you should join them by removing the signals in the center...
if you do this, the problem should not appear... most PBS problems there are only because your mistakes on placing signals
i had the only problem with PBS blocks when i built a bridge over a block and the tracks changed to unreserved

Actual explanation follows:
1. Call the PBS block in front of the train, Block 1.
2. Call the PBS block between Block 1 and the station, Block 2.
The trains on the platforms are slightly long, and their tail ends remain in Block 2. Since Block 2 has a train in it, the signals show red.
All the available (that is, valid for that train) exits from Block 1 are into Block 2, and the exit signals are red. Since Block 1 is PBS, and therefore implicitly presignalled, no train can enter the block until a path can be found to an exit with a green signal. The train must wait until Block 2 is clear of trains before it can enter Block 1.
This is why adjacent PBS blocks are a problem, and is one of the many reasons that it has been removed from the release.

Adjacent PBS blocks should not be used. The intended behaviour should be as if the signals on the boundary of the two blocks weren't there.
So maybe if the two blocks are merged to one block (by removing the signals in between), it will work.
The picture shows the big problem of PBS signals: There is no difference between entrance signals and exit signals. An entrance signal should show green when there is a path to a green exit, and an exit should behave just as a normal signal (i.e. green when free, red when occupied).
As I said before, PBS (entrance) signals show the wrong colours. If there are no trains (and hence no paths through the block) the signals should be red. It should be green if (and only if) there is a path.
How to implement it is a different question, however.
