tracks & tracks foundations suggestions

i like to make elevated railroads, so the AI or cities can't cross the tracks and vehicles stay safe
but the foundations configurations aren't so good to view, especially in diagonals tracks, so i decided to do some artwork to explain how i like them
another questions are tunnels, rail and road tunnels, why not make possible to allow tunneling tiles with the foundation? in locomotion i see only tunnels with vertical entrances, in (O)TTD only tunnels with diagonal entrances.. i like that will be possible to do like the pic

i see what you are aiming for, i think its a good idea.

and a little precization: the tunnels are only copied and pasted, the height is the same, so don't come out with "the tunnels doesn't fit in the foundations" because the pic demoustrate that they fit in, they are only moved near the edge of the tile

yeah, good idea.....tunnels look a bit weird though. But it is correct

i'm quite sure tunnels will look even weirder if you try to fit a roadvehicle inside/under them..

the height is the same, you can measure it if you want...

and the two tunnel entrances on the 3rd column of the 2nd row (yes is a picture i've took ingame, no artwork) doesn't like weird? they aren't alligned!

Tunnel entrances use a perspective trick (an optical illusion if you will) to make them look higher than they are. This trick does not work if the entrance is too short, and so it'll look weird when you have road vehicles going into these foundation tunnels.

In LoMo, tunnels require two height levels to build, in TTD it's only one, which is why they look too low without this trick, only the perspective trick makes them look like they're twice as high.

I am proposing we go for 2 height levels for tunnels and bridges, (once the new map array is done)

Graphically i think it will also work better. i will need to test it but i am certain that it will.

BTW yeah i think the tunnesl look better going under rail directly.

i remember you also smooth slopes for trains, 2 tiles long and 1 up/down :)

That is an original bug from TTD itself. The graphics havent been altered.

It's not a bug. It's intentional, and required to make the optical illusion work.

I like it. Landscape as it stands doesn't allow for hugely creative designs.

well here it is with buses going through, and personally i think it looks ok

aslong as thats how its going to look ingame, i think its fine.

Well, coding that one will be... interesting...

must be the fact we're not used to it...

Good idea, this could be very useful.

I have another proposition to make for tunnels: tunnels "on slopes" so you can have parallel tunnels that don't end at the same place. Maybe a picture will help explain:

It will be a good feature :D if the devs can say "its possible"
I have some ideas: building tracks on steep slopes:

yo, that looks great. this, and those tunnels. It allows better and cheaper junctions. :)

[EDIT] shouldn't this be possible for railway tunnels?[/EDIT]
