Game crashes when saving

I have recently installed the latest version of ttdx configurator and updated my ttd to version alpha 61.
however when I try to save my game ttd crashes.
I have found out that this can be fixed by turning on "newindustries" in the ttdx configurator
One may think that my problems have been solved then, but these new industries are kinda lousy i think

- so if anyone got an answer on how to save the game without enabling newindustries I would be one happy ttd player

It's really rather simple. Don't load any newindustries GRFs.

The only thing that the newindustries switch does is to enable GRF files to change TTD's industries. In and of itself, it does not make any changes.

Well I don't really get it. when I turn off newindustries I cannot save but when I turn them off the game crashes when trying to save.
I cannot find anything in the ttdx configurator about newindustries GRFs or how to turn it off.

won't somebody please help me, so that i can play ttd again? :(

Then maybe you should turn newindustries on? At least until that bug gets fixed.

Edit newgrf[w].cfg, if it exists, and either remove or prepend-with-hash (#) any lines that reference newindustry related files (newcargos[w].grf, OilPower[w].grf, Desal[w].grf, NCPT/NewCargosPetrolTourists.grf) Some of these will also disable themselves if you have newcargos off.

oops. that's my fault. the game crashes if newindustries are turned off, and if turned on all industries are somewhat crappy if you get what i mean...

Well, if you have the new industries in a savegame and then turn off newindustries, those new industries are now unknown and the game can do nothing but crash. Well, it could refuse to load the game at all, but that'd mean extra code for checking which needs to be written :)

Well, that seems logical. However this annoying save crash also happens when I start a completely new game with the newindustries turned off.
In my opinion this bug iss somewhat odd because it seems like nobody
else have experienced it, and it crashes when the standard configuration is loaded if you get what i mean.

Actually, it shouldn't crash. It will do some very strange things, but shouldn't crash, and should even partially recover when you load that saved game with newindustries turned back on.

Unfortunately, I can't debug that problem until I get back to the hostel, on Sunday afternoon.

I have also loaded a savegame in which i haven't used newindustries. but when I do in order to be able to save my game :? the trains i buy at the depots behaves totally wierd. sometimes they spawn outside the map or won't leave the depot at all.

Does this still happen in alpha 62?

I just updated today, and I'm sorry to say, but it does :(

After thinking about this a bit more, I suspect this post should have the solution for your problem as well.

Or wait for a63, there's at least a 50% chance that it'll fix it.

:D Well it truly does. In fact I reached the same solution as well. The problem is that I have to turn these new industries ON in order to save the save without the game crashing.

Or would it just help to turn any one of those features ON?

At least one from the first list and at least one from the second list must be turned on. Two are in both lists; those two are sufficient even if all the others are off.

That is in fact working :D I am grateful. If you would have patience with me I would like to ask if you or anyone else have experienced that with savegames created with old patches e.g. a15 the trains would require a very hiugh number of waypoint when playing on with the latest patch i.e. a62.
I have attached my savegame so you can see for yourself.

thank you in advance

The latest patch is a62fixed, and doesn't require many waypoints.

Well I get what you mean. But it seems to me that each time a train of mine has the possibilty to turn it turns, which is nearly always a wrong turn. If you please you can see for yourself in the savegame I have attached.

You should set the game difficulties to trains to turn at the end of the line only.
This way trains won't turn around in stations which is the greatest cause of trains getting lost.
