Project Objectives - 5th August 2005 - Version 2.0

Post by Steve »

To help keep the project running, we have devised a series of objectives in several areas of the project. The objectives are small and designed to be completed between meetings, in 2 or 3 weeks and will help to keep the project moving at a steady pace. This thread covers the current objectives and provides links to the work being done on them.

If you wish to join an objective, look for a forum thread marked "[Objective] With the objective name" and proceed to comment in that thread about the particular objective. If no such thread exists, you may create your own or in some cases, no thread will be needed and you can work independently. You may post here if you have general comments or questions on the objective process or wish to add yourself to an objective. There are no restrictions on who can join an objective.

In each meeting, new objectives will be explained and discussed and then posted on the forums. Team members will then have until the next meeting to complete the objective and be ready to report about the progress during that meeting. In some cases, a short report on the forums will be enough, in others you will need to collect your resources together and post them in the relevant meeting thread before the meeting, so the content can be examined and comments made in the meeting. If you are unable to come to the meeting, you must complete a report and send it to Steve or Hyronymus before the meeting so it can be presented on your behalf.

Deadline for the following objectives: Tuesday 23rd August 2005

Contents
1: Website - Create Template
2: Website - Graphics
3: Wiki - Re-organize
4: Coding - SDL Demos
5: Design Document
6: Empire Bot - Meeting Control
7: Management - Objectives

Objective 1: Website - Create Template
The website group should create a basic template for the TEmpire website, from the specficiations given earlier and in this text, to act as a guide for creating content for the future website. It should have considerations for how PHP will create the page in the future and any images that the site will posess. This objective only covers the design and colour scheme of the site and not any content.

Objective 2: Website - Graphics
This objective is to create prototype graphics for the website. The graphics should only be ideas, not the final versions. They should be just designs that we can view in the next meeting and decide upon and so that we can ensure they'll fit the chosen layout of the website. It is easier to change the colour schemes of the website rather than the graphics, so you should concentrate on making the graphics look great, rather than worrying about the current website design.

Objective 3: Wiki - Re-organize
In the last meeting we decided to make the wiki a place for developers, rather than the general public. For this reason, work should be done on the wiki to give it a 'spring clean' so that it is set up as a proper developer zone, rather than it's current muddled state. An area should also be made for stored the logs and minutes of meetings until the website can perform this function.

Objective 4: Coding - SDL Demos
There are several SDL demos that have currently been made. This objective is tolocate and organize these demos so that they can be shown to the development team and a decision can be made on how to continue.

Objective 5: Design Document
For the next meeting, workers on the design document need to present a report on how the design document is progressing. In a recent meeting we decided to try and release the design document in sections so that we can begin working on other areas as soon as possible. We will need to access how this can be done and when we can expect the first section.

Objective 6: Empire Bot - Meeting Control
Empire Bot, nicknamed TinFoil, is a helpful bot that controls the meeting agendas. This bot should be worked on to help the chairmen and minutes makers during meetings and create accurate logs of the meetings automatically.

Objective 7: Management - Objectives
The management, Steve and Hyronymus need to create and explain new objectives for the next meeting. These should members of the development team to work in several different areas. These objectives are not final and are discussed in the meetings before they are officially set. They are only to keep the project forwards and not control it to one persons will.

I don't see such threads. Where can I post my website graphics layout sketches?
