One of the Previous Posts was talking about introducing fines for things like train derailments, and it got me thinking on idea's for new disasters.
After a quick search I found this topic
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... =disasters and I was wondering if anything had been done about codeing in a new series of more realistic disasters for the game?

If I remember correctly coal mine shaft disaster has been done - but as many other patches it is still not merged. I hope it will be merged soon.

Wasn't there already a coal mine shaft disaster in the original TT?

There was, but someone suggested a change to it, instead of just grass ect dissapearing, they made it so there was a landslip in a random direction (instead of just right).
Though I was thinking not only that but things like signal faliur, random junction de-railments, ships sinking in hurricanes ect.

Ships should really get some disaster. Currenlty they are immune to any disaster, AFAIK.

How about loss of 25%-75% of carried material?

how about oil spills that you have to pay to clean up, if you don't you'll get penalties and will have to pay more

I was thinking with ships more along the lines of "Ship runs aground off [town name]"

Pirates are a more common incident than running aground. Usually only bulk carriers are pirated, with TVs, PCs, etc on them.

If there is a ship disaster, it should be only one and still very rare. Ships nowadays are pretty ludicrously safe. Personally I'd like to see less airline crashes and some kind of "accident" for road vehicles. Especially when I see them passing slower vehicles on curves and that sort of thing. It should be a rare occurance still.
I'm not sure if there should be more or less train disasters, really. Seems like they're already getting it about right. Replacing existing disasters with more realistic ones sounds good though. As would an option that stops the AI from being immune to disasters.
