Cannot get TTD to run in XP SP2

I have downloaded and installed TTD and TTD patch, latest stable version 2.0r1 Downloaded and installed via the Configurator TTDX 2.6.1. Have Windows 2000/XP compatibility checked.

ttdpatchw.exe gives a flash of a command promp window and no error message.

Transport TycoonDX & GameGFX.exe both load a blank full screen, which closes, no error messages apart from with GameGFX.exe with an alert "cannot find .... CD".

I am using the Sygate FW, it asked for permissions in the configurator and was given them.

I am using CA eTrust EZ AV, which usually tells me when it has detected something, SpywareBlaster, Adaware & Spybot S & D, none of which are asking for permission to change anything etc.

No problems on my son's W98SE, I can still crash competitors trains.

Not sure what to try next?

Try copying the contents of the CD/zip to your TTD directory.

That is where I started from, although it is not on the same drive as my OS.

Try running ttdpatchw.exe instead

Run ttdpatchw from a command prompt. It should provide some useful output.

OK, I've done a couple of things, because I couldn't get a command prompt to show my E: partition.

1) I've re-unzipped the game to a folder on C:
2) Run ttdpatchw.exe in a command prompt - see attached.
3) Run ttdxc_components_setup.exe
4) Run ttdxc.exe and used the update to download the latest version of ttdpatch - Alpha 52
4) Viewed ttdconfig.exe - It is set to Mode 4 and FM synth/Soundblaster
5) Tried ttdpatchw.exe in windows and it opened full screen for a couple of seconds, long enought to see the TTD game start up screen, it then closed and opened ttdconfig.exe

Just for the fun of it, try the other three MIDI settings. General MIDI is the one I use on my XPSP1 box.
Failing that, rename TTDLOADW.OVL to TTDLOADW.EXE, and run that. It won't work, of course, but the error message may be useful.

Tried the "General MIDI" setting - still crashes

Tried rename TTDLOADW.OVL to TTDLOADW.EXE "TTD Patch Not Loaded Properly"

But when I went to do that I noticed that Alpha 52 creates CRASH###.TXT files. I'll attach one.

Ah yes, that is a bug in alpha 52. It crashes if the "path based signalling" option is disabled. You can either enable that, or wait for alpha 53 which should be out soon.
