Non registry install?

Post by JoshBosh »

Hello i need some help. I love Transport Tycoon, but want to play it in college over their LAN. The only problem is that all student user accounts cannot add lines to the registry, so...... is it possible to create some kind of crack/patch wich disables the need for it to access the registry?

Thanks A LOT

No. It uses the registry to find out where its installed files are.

The DOS version doesn't need the registry, however.

yea its good, but we were looking for other games to play accross a Windows 2000 network that DO NOT require modifications to the registry. So far Quake 2 is the only game we got :( c'mon some1 must know of another! :)

It would be possible to write a replacement ADVAPI32.DLL (the file that contains the registry functions) so that, instead of accessing the registry, TTD accessed an INI file, say. This file would be called something like TTDREG32.DLL and would only contain the functions called by TTD. You would then have to use a hex editor to change all references in GameGFX.exe from ADVAPI32.DLL to TTDREG32.DLL. It may seem a bit overkill however.

Well the only way we can play games are if they dont touch the registry. As soon as the registry is attempted to be touched we get a big ass box on the screen and it tells us it cannot be done :(
Looks like im stuck with quake as i cant find anyother games
