Is multiplayer working? Not for me...

I haven't tried multiplayer in years because it never worked. Recently my brother came to visit and we decided to give it a try. It didn't work at all. It connected fine, and the new connection interface is very slick. But the instant we tried to start a game, it immediately reported that the game was desynced. We hadn't even done anything yet. I checked to make sure the Patch settings were the same, except for irrelevant ones like screen resolution, and of course that we had the same batch of GRFs. No difference.
Does it work for others, or did the rewrite never get anywhere?

As far as I know the Multiplayer mode doesn't work very well at all.

Csaba made an alpha with greatly improved multiplayer support, but it was never included in main TTDPatch due to some incompatibilities or problems. To be honest, I'd suggest using OpenTTD for multiplayer - although, of course, newgrf support isn't perfect yet, and there's no PBS, etc, etc.

Argh. I wish he'd finish that. It's no fun playing OpenTTD because it doesn't have all th Patch feature we know and love. It will someday, I know, and I'll switch then, but not before.

Actually, the only modification that didn't make it into the patch was the more-than-two players feature, which never worked very well.
Other than that, multiplayer should in principle work really quite well (though I still haven't had a chance to test it). Anything that doesn't work must be a bug in TTDPatch.

OK then, there must be a bug as described by me above.

Well, since I can't play multiplayer TTD, I can't do any debugging, I'm afraid you'll have to help more than you wrote. Aside from trying identical ttdpatch.cfg, newgrfw.cfg and newgrf/* files (you implied that some options were different, don't do that), you could try to find out if it's a specific patch option which causes the desynch, by turning them off one by one until it works.

krtaylor, did you use the (old) list on the wiki that warns you to not use some features in multiplayer?

I never got a chance to use ANY features at all, the game desynced immediately I started it.
The only difference in the Patch cfg was the screen resolution, which according to eis_os shouldn't matter.
No, I didn't see that link in the Wiki, wasn't it supposed to be obsolete? Isn't it irrelevant? If there is such a current list, what's the link, and I'll try that.
