MODEL RAILWAYS

I had a quick look around the forums, but couldn't find much to do with Model Railways

, so I've made this thread for all the modellers out there to find other modellers, talk to other modellers, compare models, share info, etc.... you may even find someone who can help you get what you want

so if you are a railway (or any) modeller, make a post, send us photo's of your models... i'll post new pics every couple of days of some of my stuff, it'll probably take a year to photograph it all

, so there'll always be plenty of new material to look at to keep you all interested.
[the net here is very slow tonight, so i'll try to post a pic later

]

I'm modeling Czech railways, in 1:120 scale (also known as TT), but it's wery uncommon in the US, so I'd guess it's the same with australia.
I' don't actually have any photos yet, but now I have a reason to make them.

At the moment I'm just building up a collection of N and OO gauge stock until I have somewhere I can build a decent sized layout.

Hornby's range are decent, those trackmat things are easy to do.

Hornby don't do as much modern stock as I'd like. But what they do do is good.

TTDX:
Add a poll, to see how many people are building each scale.

I believe I voted on such a poll before but I don't think it would harm the topic. The only modifying of model trains I did sofar is weathering them and demolishing one locomotive (lets say it was for educational reasons

). I've experimented with laying tracks and putting in place scenery more. Unfortunaly I haven't looked at my model track for a few years: no time, no money and no space (and I have N-gauge!).

In Llangollen, there used to be a massive layout, viaducts, coal mines and everything. Even villages. I want one like that.

Same here, but I haven't the space. Once I've got a nice house with a spare room or a decent sized attic/cellar I'll go for it.

Only reason im going for N is cause it just fits my room perfectly, otherwise HO/HOe/HOm would been my choice

I've got a bit of OO Stock laying around (mostly on my windowsill atm). I pretty much stuck with the same layout since I was 5, on an old green board with a simple loop/siding. (the track came with an old Hornby set). Have taken all the track off the board since though as it's getting old and rusty.
I'll probably end up making another layout at some stage though. Always wanted a nice little model railway

I have 12 foot ceilings in my house, I'm tempted to do a 4x8 Nscale layout, that could be hoisted out of the way when I wasnt working on it

Mine is somewhere... Havn't used it for ages. But I remember it was hell expensive, to buy locomotive I had to save my monthly money in one year or so to afford a locomtive. I dont know what the skcale is caled, but its a
Märklin M-track.
As I only owned one crossing and had limited space and track sections this was my standard, and only layout:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------------------------
/ ----------------------------------- \
/ / \ \
/ / \ \
/ / \ \
| | | |
| ==+== | |
| | | |
\ \ / /

\ ------------------X--------------- /
-------------------------X---------------------
Descreptions:
Rail/road crossing with electric gates:
A crossover rail crossing (ie: change track from inner to outer track):

i just took a few pic's of all of my standard gauge loco's (except my GM, currently getting repaired after an annoying child with ADHD thought it would be fun to see if it could bounce

, and my XPT, which is currently in the UK getting titivated and getting done in 1 piece moulds for sale through AR Kits

(the late Rodney James' company)

some more pics... just for the record, the AD60 garratt in the top pic weighs in at 5.4kg, i filled every empty space in the loco with lead, and it can haul 50 feet of rollingstock up 1in40 grades with ease... so far the record lengths are 1: (see above) 2: NR Class 45 feet on 1in40, 3: 81 Class 43 feet on 1in40... the NR did it's record with ease, the only reason it wasn't longer was because we ran out of rollingstock to put behind it
and just for a laugh, the X200 0-4-0 shunter in the previous pic's can haul 10 feet up a 1in40 grade...

and it weighs .998kg, just to compare, why not weigh your locos and compare their performances!
anyway, here's the pics...

I've N scale, it's just better than H0...
- N scale is 2 times smaller so it takes 4 times less space
- All N scales manufacturers use the same rail and coupling systems
- N scale is somewhat cheaper than H0
