AUSSET - VR Development

Since the decision was made in the original Australian Set to make only 1 gauge available, I have pulled my services out and concentrated on getting a 3 gauge AUSSET on the move. If you are interested in drawing or coding for this set let me know. I would be more than happy to get some helpful hands around here (rather than complainers, like at the old set). I only want people who think positivly, and believe that anything can be done if thought out thoroughly. Hope to have you all aboard soon.

I accept your desicion to break of from us and start your own ausset. I applaude you and wish you well in this new project.

Have you read Patchman's
post in the AUSet1[0] forum, ttdx_artist? Basicly, AUSet3 cannot work if electrifiedrailway is on. Not that it's that hard to disable a set if electrifiedrailway is on (30 seconds, and access to the wiki, and I could write the necessary action 7. Add 150 sec for appropriate error messages), but to disable in the face of such a popular (and often required -- DBSet[XL], USSet, etc.) switch setting seems like suicide to me. It is still quite possible to have the wagons refuse to appear (except in E/W configs, so you get feedback in the depot window) if they are not behind the correct engines. On the other hand, I do not particularly like the idea of having triple-gauge rail.
If requested, my coding services will go to whichever set gets its act together first. Unfortunately for everyone, a split like this may well kill both sets.
Comments on AUSet3 vs. AUSet1: AUSet3 will remove the possibility of having mismatched cars and engines, but it may require sacrificing more VIDs to cars. The car introduction system will also be more manageable, because the cars of each type appear when the first train does.
As I posted in AUSet1, I can't make this decision, for you, ttdx_artist, but I think the two AUSets should share graphics when both need drawings of the same vehicle, rather than waste effort drawing multiple copies of one vehicle.
[0]We need something to distinguish them so I'll use number of gauges, unless something better is proposed.

there are many cars, locos that are both SG n BG, some are/have been NG, SG,BG. many trainsets have been on both, example SOP was both BG and SG. also, can i ask which narrow guage you are going to use? as there are a few different ones.
also, i spose theres going to be no elec. tilt train only the standard?
there are A LOT of different locos, cars etc, which ones do you plan to include?

Ok, slow down....
1: Narrow Gauge is 3'6" Gauge which is used throughout QLD, and in some areas of WA and SA.
2: This set won't share graphics with others, but i dont care if they use my graphics that i have already submitted on the thread.
3: In regard to the gauge system using the example of the SOP... I was planning on having (for example only) a GM that is available in VR, NSWGR and AN colours. Each colour would override different passenger and mail cars, the USset already does this. So you could have a GM in SG with a SOP as well as a BG GM with SOP cars. The only down side to this is you may have to buy and sell your loco till you get the required scheme.
4:The narrow gauge will be electrified, so we will have both Tilts.
5:I would love to have every loco on the list, I know it's big, but thats what would make it so great!!! I haven't seen a set with over 50 loco's yet, and this one has 75+ all divided on to different gauges, but nobody in the other set could see that, and it's massive advantages... well i guess they miss out... hehehe

OK, this is just getting a bit ridiculous.
The main thing about Transport Tyccon is we need to make exceptions. 3 gauges, while a very interesting concept, will eventually make things much more complicated.
Basically, I'm all for an Aus. set, but how common was Broad Gauge? Most lines used Standard and Narrow. Basically, I'd say stop acting like a 3 year old and make some concessions. TTD isn't accurate, and while being as "Realistic" as possible is nice, you may have to drop the Broad gauge stock and go with Std, NG and NG Electric. (or any combination) Dual Gauge will just make tracks look really odd. Honestly, I don't think the community can handle 2 sets, so will both parties work out their differences.
As was stated, if there's enough response later, you can do state-specific sets.
Just my $0.02

You could have "Broad" "Narrow" "Normal" gauge system in Locomotion more easily, but making trains for it would be harder.

but before making 75 different trains remember that there is a limited number of ID's!!!, just get some info from a coder

You should have stopped right there.
Any more nastiness like that, and I'll withdraw my offer to code. Hold your set up on its own merits, not by putting down other sets.
More design questions:
You do realize that there are only 116 TOTAL rail vehicles (ALL types), right? 75 engines only leaves you only 41 cars, which gives you an extremely limited car-selection, even if you plan to do what DBSet[XL] does, and not provide all cargo types on all rail types.
Again, I'm not trying to discourage you, I just don't want to see this set die later because it was overdesigned and no one can agree on what to cut out.

NONE of you Aussies have any experience with doing a set for TTD. I admire your enthusiasm, and I'd love to see a set. But it is very very hard to get all the work done for even a very popular set, much less to do TWO sets for the same country. In the US set, we FIRST did one set for all three environments. THEN we started breaking it down so you got (somewhat) different vehicles in each of the three environments, and even that has yet to be finished (and maybe never will be

) DO NOT bite off more than you can chew, or nothing will ever get done. Do a little at a time, and you'll get there. And for heaven's sake, cooperate.

I dont see how everyone can et on with business being so damn negative about everything
1: I know about the # of ID's and i said i would like to see every loco on the list, i didn't say that it is yet possible. But what i did say earlier in the peace was that i would like to bring out whole states first, and then pick the key loco's and rollingstock from each and create an AUSSET, but everyone was looking too far ahead of themselves and concentrated on gauges for an AUSSET which i wasn't yet contemplating.
2: Who said they'd like a VR set? Cause that was my original idea, i contacted Macca, from Macca's Scenarios, about this a year ago. And it was my plan to bring it out first being the easiest to draw for.
3: It is very possible, and basic, to have 3 gauges... i currently am using my own version in TTD by replacing MagLev and Mono with normal Railway graphics... it works fine, and as long as you make the better gauge replace the better track the CPU doesnt stuff up either.
4: About nastiness??? I wasn't being "nasty", i was simply stating a fact that there are none with over 50 locos and i would like to be able to improve on it. So ask questions first and pop heads second ok.
You will all be thanking me when I'm done... So stop telling me what can and cant be done, just find out how it can be done... i know a set idea like this is a long shot, but at least TRY to be possitive about it. So far i haven't said anything that is rediculous, like diagonal bridges and subways... everything i have mentioned is related to parameters in the game. The most rediculous sounding thing i said was Speed Boards, but it must be possible, because bridge's use this parameter.
And i'm not acting like a 3 yr old, i'm simply trying to be possitive and motivating.

I was the one who said I'd like to see a VR set. Be nice because I think the VR livery's the best looking

Plus VR had some electric, and it would be easier to do a straight State set as opposed to worrying about different gauges.
Again, just a thought

That only works if you force people who use your set to turn off both electrifiedrailways and unifiedmaglev. If they don't, they'll only get two gauges (with gauges 2 and 3 merged), plus one of them electrified if that switch is on, and which two they get then depends on the unifiedmaglev switch.
While it's certainly possible to go down the route of forbidding these switches, it's rather against the spirit of the patch which allows people to choose how they want to play instead of forcing them to play a certain way.
I'd encourage you to make the set work with all patch settings, and then you can only really count on having two gauges.

You do realise that some things just
can't be done? The patch has limitations, and you need to accept those. They can't be changed, so "being positive" about things getting done that just can't be done is a useless attitude.
The most rediculous sounding thing i said was Speed Boards, but it must be possible, because bridge's use this parameter.
Ok, that means it'll work for bridges, but not for anything else. TTD just isn't flexible enough... it's hard enough to bend it in the ways the patch does, but if you bend too much it breaks.

maybe /me can draw something this set?

Patchman: I love your work with the patch, but nothing is limited, you just need to exploit things more thoroughly and work out how to improve. And as i keep saying, i dont want either Mag/Mono or EletricRails on, so that isn't a problem. Anything can be done, you just need to find a way to do it.
Purno: Sure, draw whatever you want, if you have anything Aussie that you like you can start with that until i find something for you... what would you prefer to draw? I could get a list and pics of MU's for you just as I was getting WHI to get for you in the other thread.
Zimmlock: (I know you'll see this), how do you feel about drawing Signal Boxes? Maybe even a new depot?
And i had a really silly idea today... (what else is new)... should we draw a Puffing Billy set while we are plannig the AUSSET? Puffing Billy was a very small narrow gauge railway in the Dandinongs near Melbourne. They only had 3 different types of Locos and only about 10 different vehicle types. might be a fun thing to start with while waiting for new faces who want to participate in the AUSSET show up.
DanMacK: I would be more than willing to start with just a VR set, would you be willing to help with steam locos? I already have a R Class, but maybe yourself are Purno could work together on the SOP???

I wonder what your countrys meaning for "VR" is cause theres Railway company called "VR"(Valtion Rautalinjat), and im getting confused when you use just "VR"

There's one diesel engine I remember from Trainz, it's the QR 22000, 20000, or 2000. I don't remember the number exactly. Problem is I can't find any images. Do you know any sites which Australian-train-pictures?

yep!!!
http://www.railpage.org go down about halfway and click on the John Clevedons Loco Page link. that has a list of each states locos with specs and pics. I think i know the loco you are talking about it would be either a 2400 or a 2260, i think. It's a long hood type loco used for coal traffic right?
