Signalling - What am i doing wrong?

Post by Timitry »

Hi everyone :)
I tried to make a 4-lane railroad, and wanted the trains to make able to switch the road, like you see in the picture, to overtake another train.
But, i don't know how to use the signals right for that, i tried a lot of combinations, but it didnt work, the fast train always ran in the red double-signal...
Hope you can help :)

set it to use png in the options, specially if you want to send the picture to anybody. Never use bmp on the net, it's too big

About the signal issue, would you upload a savegame so we can view the entire train route. I can't see all the tiles, which might be important in this case. Also, do you use new or old path finding (option in the patch settings)

and? is it any good? I once did a similar thing, but the overall speedgain was minimal to 2 seperate tracks, where no train could change. how much higher throughput did you achieve?

well, i didnt tested it really much yet, but if a train is some faster than another one, he changes the line and can so overtake the other one :)

That is very unlikely. Most likely is that one of the trains will have to stop at next crossing and then slowly start again...

Building more parallel tracks may have some meaning to avoid breakdown hogs. But I never found any way to gain anything from it (except complete tracks separation), either.

Hey folks!

That was a really cool thing of you guys to make ttd live again! since i discovered i cant do my studies any more, i am playing all the time.

anyway, i have a problem, and i cant figure out, what the solution can be. i want to have a station, which has two tracks, and if one of them is occupied, then the trains shall go to the open track. i managed to do this with one pre-signal, and at the tracks one end-signal for each.
Though it worked with a previous station, it doesnt work with the attached one. I must have been screwing up sg, but what?

on the picture you can see, that a train is on the down-track, the light is green for the upper, but the next train just wants to go to this track. why?

I'm not sure what the cure is.
And to be honest i believe that the devs have actually made it worse. I've got a game i played ages ago up to 2050, but if i load it now one of my major stations doesn't work properly, The trains can't find their way around didly squat (with or without the new pathfinding), and they all keep trying to go to the same platform.
And pre-signals ARE in use, but don't seem to be working.

Actually, you need your two exit-presignal at the entry of the station to be 2 way presignals (remember that trains choose a free track only with 2way signals). And then, your entry-presignal should be a 1 way signal.
