Re: UK Election 2015
Very interesting, in many ways! Are we set for another Conservative coalition, possibly with the Lib Dems? Possibly even with UKIP and the DUP(!)?
The SNP exit poll is crazy. I bet Orkney and Shetland will be the one holdout, if it proves to be true!

Re: UK Election 2015
Final YouGov poll suggests otherwise:
Tory 284 MPs,
Labour 263,
SNP 48,
LibDems 31,
UKIP 2,
Plaid 3,
Green 1

Re: UK Election 2015
Filled out the yougov one just before the broadcasters exit poll was released. I'm obviously hoping the official exit poll is wrong. I guess with so many constituencies so close that the error margins are substantial?
Re: UK Election 2015
20,000 (the sample) is far more than any of the opinion polls.

Re: UK Election 2015
Another take on the exit polls.
I am hoping that we are going against the 2005 & 2010 exit polls that were so accurate, and going back to old ones that were horrendously inaccurate.

Re: UK Election 2015
I suspect Milliband & Clegg will have some awkward Q&A sessions after this.
Re: UK Election 2015
Tis not good. Likely SNP clean sweep which isn't necessarily a problem, but Labour isn't making any traction across England & Wales
Edit: 4:00 AM, there you go owen! lib dem hold in Orkney and Shetland with 800 majority. Looks like it'll be the only one. Lib Dems on 3 overall so far with some big losses. Cons have only recently got ahead of the SNP. Lab ahead but of course the rural constituencies take longer to declare and are practically all con

Re: UK Election 2015
My cautious optimism is rapidly becoming less and less
Re: UK Election 2015
This was a very depressing way to sit through the night. Six centrist to left wing supporters, all staying up, all horrifically disappointed.
Re: UK Election 2015
Haha. Only good point I've seen is that UKIP has not performed that well, here's hoping that Farage won't win and thus will resign. I was optimistic that the exit poll was wrong at the very beginning of the night, but as the results started filtering I resigned myself to the fact that the exit poll was fairly accurate... Even before the first marginals (Nuneaton, N. warks) showed that Labour wasn't making any progress you could see that it was unlikely, with many seats swinging slightly more to the ToriesPingaware wrote:This was a very depressing way to sit through the night. Re: UK Election 2015
I'm slightly annoyed by this one, CON won by just 27 votes. A few less Green bandwagons, and LAB.

Grr!
At time of posting, this is the closest margin of the UK Election 2015.

Re: UK Election 2015
And a few more UKIP voters go back to the Conservatives and the result would have been the same...
Living in a ridiculously safe Tory seat, I ended up voting Conservative due to Local issues (road improvements for the A303 at Stonehenge and keeping my partner's work at Porton Down rather than moving it to Essex). The other parties in the area didn't get much across other than piffle and are mostly parachuted in. Also, if there was any way to definitely ensure UKIP didn't win; I'd do that.

Blimey.
Clegg out, Miliband out, Farage out.
Liberal Democrats shattered, Rise of the SNP and crushing of Labour in Scotland.
Unexpected Tory majority.
What a dramatic overnight shift in UK politics.

Re: UK Election 2015
OK, I need some help here.
David Cameron's party secured about 11 million votes, or about 37%. How does that give them 50% or more of the seats? What is the benefit of this "first past the post" system?
At the same time, SNP secures merely 4.8% of the popular vote, yet 56 seats (which is closer to 9% of seats). I know WHY these results come about, I just don't see what the benefit is. In my opinion, securing 20% of votes should give you 20% of the seats. No more, no less.
Sinn Fein got 0.6% of the vote and 4 seats. The Green Party got 3.8% of the vote and 1 seat. It just doesn't seem fair.
