Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
As Eddi mentioned, what I meant by "graphics template" was a method of organizing sprites in a rather precise manner such that already-established NML templates can be used to code the vehicles. I would recommend using this template from the Dutch Trainset, a template where you take each vehicle's sprites and align the bottom-right of the vehicle with the bottom-right of the first 4 blue boxes, and align the bottom-left of the vehicle with the bottom-left of the next 4 boxes (do not change the size and/or position of the blue boxes, although you may remove any excess blue boxes you do not use for the vehicle). Many examples of this alignment can be seen at the Dutch Trainset repository. Of course, if the vehicle fills the box completely, that's fine. If the vehicle ends up being bigger than the blue boxes... we might have a problem.
If you can get all the graphics in this format, coding should be a breeze.

but here I fitted the sprites of everyone's trains into the template you gave me
Does it matter where the depot sprites are?

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
I decided to start with metro trains of München (Munich) which is operated by MVG.
Here is the 2 car unit known as the B-train in reality it is if not the same as the Nürnberg DT2. so I simply took my sprites from the Nuremberg train and painted it over in Munich colours http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... chen_B.jpg
U-Bahn München B-Train
Name: München MVG DT2 "B-train"
Capacity: 192 (passengers)

Weight: 60 t
Running cost: 60,000/yr
Cost: 100,000
Reliability: around 90%

pffff...in the DOS Pallete do the "yellow flash" colours actually give a flashing light effect?

Yes they do. The airport's flashing lights and lighthouse use it, IIRC.Hans Kruzer wrote:pffff...in the DOS Pallete do the "yellow flash" colours actually give a flashing light effect?

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
thanks, in that case I just may use it on my trains for some attractive eyecandy effects muahahaha
and now a progress report//
Currently only 3 more trains will be added to the set. There will be 2 types of Metro train per city system for a total of 9 trains.
working on:
München C-Train
Nürnberg DT3
and maybe a Frankfurt U-Bahn type
Note that from what I know, Frankfurts "U-Bahn" operates Light rail vehicles or coupled trams its not actually a metro system. It is more similar to say the Hanover Stadtbahn eg
So for that reason I may or may not add a train for Frankfurt
also if I did, it would differ from the rest of the set, as it draws power from overhead wires as in real life so would use electrified rails in OTTD

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
Yay! 1 more train and I will end it for now and hopefully release the set as it is now, when it is coded sometime later. Say its a milestone to paint a train with a curved front! Also for fact, its very similar to the HK series for its purpose, a very new and modern type of train and fully articulated with many cars. Some say it's Munich's equivalent of Berlin's newest metro trains.

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
I have updated the sprites for the Berlin HK type will not post yet though.
There is a small/Kleinprofil or narrower type which will use my sprites, the BVG HK-type. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BVG-Baureihe_HK
Yoshi's sprites will be used as the Großprofil (big) type which is the BVG H-type. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BVG-Baureihe_H

...well..I was using empty templates from the Dutch Trainset. I refitted your sprites into those boxes (see the previous file attatched above of the complete set)Yoshi wrote:I had a depot sprite in my spritesheet... but you do not use it
I also re-did the depot sprite to include all of the cars when it is purchased as a unit, like the other sprites. Did I do it wrong?

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
depot sprites should probably not be that long, as the text needs to fit next to it, and the longest sprite defines the width of the column

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
Well thanks for info to both of you
. I have added proper and shorter depot/buy menu sprites. You can still see the freakishly long depot sprites as before well now, those are just to show the length of one train when its bought.
The depot sprites (new) are below each sprite set on the spritesheet

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
All righty, here's a grf to test. All the vehicles are included, and they're currently requiring Electric rails. Still to do: A parameter to select the railtype (monorail, electric rail, other track types if installed).
Some comments:
- I wasn't sure if the weights that were listed were for the whole consist or one car.
- The purchase and running costs aren't all properly set, yet.
- Pretty much all other properties (capacity, speed, etc.) should be set correctly, check to make sure they're what they should be.
- Some of the sprites have flashing yellow lights, I'm presuming that's intended.
- I don't know what the tractive efforts should be.
- I edited the purchase sprites a bit, they were a tad too large as they were, IMO.
- None of the sprites have company colors, I'm presuming that's also intentional.
- I hope you're all ok with the GPL v2 for the license. Some of the code we used was borrowed from the GPLed Dutch Trainset, so this is pretty much a necessity.
Compiled grf and sources are attached.

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
Many thanks Supercheese!
pffft you forgot to add Yoshi as an artist in the credits
All is great, there is no major graphics issue so our job is mostly done.
The only issue may be that the front cars for the Großprofil H Berlin (by yoshi) and the München C-train, but I guess that is graphical issue, maybe so I will investigate the sprites
Everything except the costs is exact or approximate, good enough for me hahaha
To be honest I haven't a clue about the 'tractive efforts' but do not worry I will shortly find out about them, ja!
The intent of the set was to look realistic, so I purposely only put city liveries on the trains. I may add 2cc versions later
The flashing lights are very intentional, it should be the super attractive thingy that grabs all the GRF-consumers into the set. I mean who doesn't like flashy lights on trains
Good job comrades *tears of joy*

Re: Modern German U-Bahn Set (OpenTTD)
That's a very nice eyecandy set!
You did some great work! These real german U-Bahn were missing for so long... jm2c
I did some testing:
Good job, keep going!

I did some testing:
- It doesn't matter if all the train properties are set to the exact real values, but the set delivers a nice mixture. So you'll propably find exactly the trains that fits your needs for city/suburban transport.
- In comparison to the DBSetXL: the purchase costs are too low. I think x4 higher would be good. And the running costs are high. I suggest /8 would be ok.
- All train speeds are working correctly. Even all other technical aspects seem to work perfectly as intended.
- the front/end car of HHA DT5 looks a bit weird. It seems like between the two red sides there are some sprites missing, just right above the floor. For me it looks like the train would hover over the ground. Is this intended?
- the blinking trip indicator/lights on the front/end cars need some more graphic coding:
HHA DT4: ok
HHA DT5: just one pixel as indicator? thats too less! The train windows are very small, could they be drawn one more pixel in height?
BVG F-92: missing indicator
BVG HK: displaced indicator (not in the middle)
BVG H: ok
VAG DT2: missing indicator
VAG DT3: sloped/rotated indicator when train is rushing southwest/northeast // or northwest/southeast \\
MVG B/DT2: missing indicator
MVG C: displaced indicator (not in the middle) - more graphic coding could be done towards the gap between two wagons:
HHA DT4: ok
HHA DT5: ok
BVG F-92: gap sloped/rotated when train is rushing southwest/northeast //
BVG HK: gap too big at the train roof
BVG H: ok
VAG DT2: gap too big
VAG DT3: gap too big
MVG B/DT2: gap sloped/rotated
MVG C: gap between front car and wagon is higher than gap between wagon and wagon - the depot sprites are too big, you can't read the first letters of the train's name. maybe just take 1 wagon (= the front car) as preview.
- german translation is missing...

Good job, keep going!
