Nice shots, I think small nice lines are more fun to watch then the big "messy" networks. Also with the many eycandy GRF's people tent to go for realism I think.

Chill'spatchpack has the nasty side effect it's getting out dated compared to trunk, Most new GRF are not useable with chill'sPP. I now use the Hard patchpack, this one also include the signals on tunnels/bridges. I only miss undersea tunnels in the hardpack sadly.

Edit: Chill'sPP generates beautifull maps, nice sea's etc. It's a shame the default OTTD map generator doesn't do this.

Small lines are nice enough, but they're also not much of a challenge except in difficult terrain.

I'm not especially bothered about being out of date relative to trunk, there aren't any new features which I'm aware of that I'm willing to sacrifice those in Chill's Patchpack for.
In particular, I'm not prepared to play without some form of cargodest (I'm much more interested in that sort of realism than just having more eye-candy), so trunk is out for the foreseeable future from my point of view.

It does not yet but it can, even with only 16 levels ... http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=63595
Not yet fit for trunk but the functionality is there and you can export the heightmaps to play in whatever version you want untill hopefully my (complete rewritten) version is accepted.

I hope one day they'll all be included in trunk too. Maybe who knows ... one at a time.

Very nice screenies as usual.

Hahaha ouch, yeah, that is dense! I'm still looking for challenges, when the layout still looks pretty I feel like I've barely got started. Actually that's not entirely true. I have a couple of very long-running games which still have pretty areas. They are 256x256, many of my recent games have been 64x64 because I was playing on a Zaurus which has very slow graphics. Oh.. and high sea level too, for greater challenge. That particular combination leads to very high-density work. I guess that's why I liked my Tatminster save so much; it was that size, everything worked, and much of it was still very pretty, but that game died from GRF abuse.

Thank you for the patch links. I'm wondering quite what to do as I also enjoy playing with the latest GRFs. Perhaps I'll keep two versions of OpenTTD, that's easily doable with my setup. I will have to try cargodest too, the lack of destinations does bug me from time to time.

Here's a few more screenshots, and a minimap.
Screen 10 is a station in one of the more difficult areas.

I've not posted a screenshot in a little while, so here are some of the more recent updates to the game.

Screen 12 & 13:
I built a a mostly single line route from Portsmouth to White Notley, as the bus route through Porthmadog and Swaffham was quite overloaded.

Screen 14:
The (quite steep) incline between Bickley Park and West Ham is a rather significant bottleneck, as it is mostly single track and traffic is growing quite strongly.
The new passing loop is probably the steepest I've ever built ^^.

Moving on from small to medium, and an updated minimap.

Screen 15:
This station is on a fairly busy route, most of the traffic is non-stop.

Screen 16:
Another out of town airport, a fair way out from anywhere of note really, but still very busy.

Minimap:
Does what is says on the tin.

It's been a while since I last posted, but I've still been working on the same game.
There's been a significant growth in traffic along some routes, and some of the remaining areas have been connected.

Screen 17:
Aughton Park is on one the routes which has been quad-tracked for part of its length. Compare with Screen 15.

Screen 18:
This is one of the more hilly remote outposts, two lines cross here at two different levels.

Screen 19:
One of the pinch-points on the network, most expresses use the avoiding line though which helps keep things running.

Screen 20:
Two branch lines through the hills cross, one 9 levels higher than the other.

Screen 21:
This parkway station lies on a major trunk route, and has junctions to branch lines either side of it.

Network Map:
Now with added lines.

That is some sexy infrastructure in your screenshots. Which track and bridge set do you use?

Thanks :)

I'm using NuTracks 1.1.2 and the Total Bridge Renewal Set 1.12

That game was starting to get a bit out of hand, and Chill's patchpack was starting to show its age a bit.

So, I've now started a new game, with a new patchpack. Some screenshots are attached below.

I'm going to be away for a week from tomorrow, so will post some more when I get back ^^.

I ended up starting another game a few months ago, so never got round to posting any more from that last one.

I'm still using the same patchpack, and pretty much the same GRFs and the like.

As I'm playing with cargodest and some cities have grown dramatically, the whole "small and beautiful" thing has gone out of the window in a few areas though.

Here's two more, in relatively low traffic areas, and a minimap.

Just looking at your minimap, is that a separate HSR network overlaid?

Here's a few more.
Quite a few towns have grown significantly, and overall the network is somewhat overloaded.
Some of the infrastructure has been beefed up a bit to try to increase capacity...

And some more shots of a few slightly more out of the way points on the network...
