i have a 5MB connection so i dont care but i doubt that everyone will agree with you
10% of a 100MB pack is 10MB which may not be trivial to some (besides it took me 14sec to compress the same pack that i just downloaded)

unless you mean extracting hassle then before it came as self extractable for the win users (to avoid the compatibility issues)
but it was requested to make this way, so it looks that everyone wants something else and in whole there is not much we can do :)

btw any chance you can upload the TAR files to that torrent you spoke about before ?

I tried to give this 32bpp guy access to upload Torrents self to our server, but no answer.

So I wanted again download it self and because you changed exe to 7z. I thought, the issue is solved, but failed. It is btw. easier to unpack the exe on my linux desktop then the other. As I can use wine for it. But for .7z I don't have a tool to unpack, my p7zip I used is the newest available, didn't find newer versions also on other distros.

Edit: it might also be interesting, how much bigger a archive with the stable version of 7zip will be. (9.10 is beta and might be the reason, there is no unix port)

Edit2: He, installed p7zip 9.04 from an other repo, seems to work with it. The Torrent is up: http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/torrents/files

Edit3: The new FullPack is 30 MB less than the old, something lost?

Hey guys,

i have tried installed this the way you are suggesting, and it seems all the files inside either your "full install" or "Base set" are all 0kb!!!! and corrupted when i try to extract them!!!

i have tried downloading it 4 times from all your different links and am having the same issue.

the only one that worked is the latest torrent file that has just been uploaded

let me know if im doing something wrong?

thanks

try this:

WINRAR - http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (3.92 or better)
7z - http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (9.10 beta or better)

Ok, I'm stumped. I cleaned up all my old copies of TTD and OTTD. Downloaded and extracted the 3 files in order (I did receive the 7z error during extraction but the files appeared to be intact maybe someone can provide a folder by folder file list or some other troubleshooting information).

Step 1 game files into new game folder. Check.

Step 2 Basic set into gamefolder/data check.

Step 3 Additional set into gamefolder/data check.

So I now have a wonderfully updated version of the 8bps game. (Oh, I checked the .cfg file also for the two lines that need to be there and as stated above with the "pack" those are correct as is).

Does anyone have any other suggestions? :?: :?:

Please.... I NEED to play this!

I have symlinked the torrents folder to the webserver, if you have troubles and don't want to use torrents, you might like to try that:

Sorry for the delay. This work thing really cramps my OTTD playing time! Ok, here are the error(s) I get while upacking (this is taken from unpacking the base set). It DOES unpack all the files (as far as I can tell) however 7z reports the following:

http://home.comcast.net/~martin.watson

(sorry about the MESS Comcast made of my site and the fact it no longer allows file sharing).

If you can't read it very well the error is: "Unsupported compression mehod for:"

Thanks!

i see, unsupported compression method ...

you tried this:
neob wrote:update your archive software.

WINRAR - http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (3.92 or better)
7z - http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (9.10 beta or better)

or you can always download the files from 'Ammler' link in the above post.

I shall try both methods and report back.

I guess everybody would be happy if the pack was not packed with a beta-version of the compression software, that uses all the newest compression methods that are not ported to all platforms yet, but with a little bit less optimal software, that most users already have. I guess that is what Ammler meant with hassle, the questions already are coming.

this feature is not really a beta it was in previous version of winrar as well
and 7z is in beta since 4.65 for more than a year i think (its 9.10 right now)

its google syndrome as i call it (started doing so after my google email beta seemed to be a never ending story )

also this problem only popud up recently after '32bpp pack' stopped including self extractable's because of some request.
i still support the self extractable solution, which eliminated the need for archive software all together regardless of versions.

for the rest there is always wine (which acording to Ammler is better than this solution) and there is 'Ammler' torrent/http download
btw there is a 7z 9.04 for linux

Yeah, and it's considered unstable, so several distro's won't have it: http://packages.gentoo.org/package/app-arch/p7zip

Exe is not perfect, I would hate to install wine just for unzipping a package, what's wrong with a 'normal' zip or a stable 7z?

I used the last full pack but there's a problem with the coast tiles.

I had to rename and delete somes files in ogfxe_extra for me to work.

Works only with OpenGFX.

Does that also work for original graphics?
Anyway, thanks for looking at the problem, but the solution was already present: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=852397#p852397

you are asking the wrong man :D but my guess would be compression rates (and Exe is still the best solution for windows users which i consider to be the more helpless bunch)

but now that 'Ammler' allow us to use the server for torrent/http download the best solution will an auto updater (like the one DL OpenGFX/SFX when you install OpenTTD 1.0.0) that will download the latest packs from there.

No, it only works with OpenGFX graphics.

But you just have to replace this package in the last full pack.

I completely agree on that, that's why I started a new project on the openttdcoop devzone, for automatic creation of bundle and newgrf on the server

No, for sprites in the ogfxe_extra.grf, you will also need a newgrf, symlinking is not enough

nice, iirc NSIS is the software used to create the installer and all the source code in can be found in one of the svn folders.
btw any specifics i should concern myself about as i was planing to reupload some of the Tars to the repo this weekend and i dont want to do double work.
