About steel, what goods do we need? Steel coils?
Image

Or Steel Girders? (Can't find any pics of steel girder transport)

Don't forget, we need empty versions of these wagons too, and possibly gradual loads, for maximum eyecandy effect :P

Don't thank me, thank dmh_mac. He is the one who created the texture. :P

And I can easily create empty wagons, but this just looks better for display purposes.

Steel coils are the most popular and efficient way to transport general steel (not final products or prefabs like ledges etc)

So... Would something like this be legal?

I mean using company names. I thought perhaps it breaks some trademark laws, or something.

CV: If it would be possible, OTTD would have Boenings and TGVs. But now we're left with Darwins and TIMs

its its just billboards and stuff.... i don't see how anyone would care (as long as its not the name of vehicles that they own the design of)

if its from a real carridge side, and its their design, then i would say go for it.

but then again..... i am not the law.

You can easily revert the names to Boeing and TGV etc by changing the language options to "original names"

webfreakz.nl, that doesn't look like a train to me. Looks like a bridge under construction.

I took it from this model railroad wagon by Märklin, but I have no idea if the design exists in real life.

I did some more painting. They need more detail, I guess (like numbers and such. And perhaps some dirt), but I don't know how to add that at the moment. But it is a start.

Looking great :o
Sometimes I get an urge to install Blender and give it a shot some time.

But I can already guess that my attempts would fail horribly (or at least I've never really produced anything worthwhile with other 3D Modelling Software)

I had an idea to add some numbers to the locomotivs by cutting out numbers from a picture and then add it to the model with UV mapping. But that didn't work very well. I got the number on alright, but the rest of the model turned out black. I thougt that I could get around this by making the background transparent, but the model didn't keep its original color. I then tried putting the numbers on by using it as a texture. But that didn't work either.
Is it possible to do something like this, or am I just wasting my time?

I mean using company names. I thought perhaps it breaks some trademark laws, or something.
Personally I'd suggest against it for several reasons:
1) Why do you want to do free advertising for MegaCorp$?
2) IP laws vary for different countries, and they're becoming more insanely restrictive over time. As such it may not be legal everywhere.
3) You can use the opportunity to make your own funny ones up. TT relevant sort of thing. Much more entertaining.
4) Not everyone has the same companies driving around their country.

On the wood truck/wagon front (there was a render somewhere earlier). I'd like to make a suggestion. Unlike all other goods (in temperate anyway), wood in the only one that could potentially look significantly different with different wagons. i.e see these pics:

It would be quite funky to see a train with multiple types of wood wagon trailing behind it, rather than all identical (which is realistic for steel and stuff, but not wood).

Uhh, I really wish to have more free time. Great models indeed.
