The OpenTTD README file that is included in every download quite clearly explains how you download, install and activate NewGRFs.

WRT the recent car ferry thread,
did you try putting cars on the vehicle ferry in loaded state? just to see how it'd look?
Passengers are depicted as cars in NewStations, too :)

edit: and at least one other stations set..

Fill bottles with Oil, and put them in the passengers' suitcases.

I was thinking that Ferries could transport trucks hauling cargo across water, as they do do that in some places with Vehicle ferries, where trucks loaded with goods drive on, strap down, and then you have a fwe hour trip across the water

sure, that would be great. as soon as you provide a patch that implements this feature in OpenTTD, this GRF will provide such ferries.

Hello,
can u tell me where i must change the value to get a lower availability time (for example 70 years for the Fiumelatte Steam ship)? I think, all ships have an endless availability during the hole game. Ive tried hours to find the right value, but no result for it :(

Why do you spend your time on trying to decypher de-compiled and uncommented code? The source code is readily and publicly available and quite well documented... Even if you're deterred by the complexity of its source code, the pre-assembled NML file is also available: http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/fish/nig ... g/fish.nml

Anyway:
http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/fis ... SH.py#L143
http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/fis ... c/FISH.cfg

In other words: vehicles are set to VEHICLE_NEVER_EXPIRES unless a replacement vehicle is set, in which case the model life is the difference between the two introduction years increased by the vehicle life.

The code you quote doesn't define any model life time.
But look for vehicle model availability, property 0x04. Ignore the vehicle lifetime (property 0x03) which gives the time span of a particular vehicle when freshly purchased on how long you can run it without its reliability dropping. Thus, if you enjoy looking at hex numbers, search for property 0x04 of vehicle 0x6A in an action0. Indefinite availability is indicated by a property value of 0xFF.

Ah, that was it! thats the reason why the ships allways be available zu buy. In Lv4w and aviators planes, the entry is still there and I´ve written a text file with elucidations years ago. I´m simply a blindfish :D

I´ve looked for the pages u both have linked. I´m sorry that I dont have so much time to develop new parts of any set with or without VS. There are to many games I´m playing between job and travelling in my few hometimes...

good luck for next time ;)

Hello!
First of all thank you for creating/maintaining this great set. It is "must have" (and only one) in terms of water transport in my games.
But I found something like bug (not sure if it is known problem): I used to play with alpha-5 release found on compile farm (bundles.openttdcoop.org) from february 2013, but later I moved do nightly releases (somewhere from rev1010). At first I realized that there are less ships, but didnt care about it as I thouhght that it is intended (e.g. unwanted ships were removed etc.). Currently I came to rev1057 from yesterday since when there is only one ship remaining (in any year of game). When I looked deeper in repository I found that alpha-5 has size approx. 743kB in .zip file, later revisions have approx 390kB and the rev1057 has only 18kB. Is it possible to check whether is something wrong with compiling of the bundles? Thank you very much.

It's quite brave to use the nightly build, it's likely to break occasionally :)

However if you want to continue with nightly builds, you might like to check out the commit history when downloading. You can see that here: http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/fis ... /revisions

Specifically the commit for r1053 explains what you're seeing http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/fis ... a03be7edbb

The full set of ships will be restored, but not until I've finished some code migrations ;)

Just a question. Will the steamships be availible in the 1.2.3 version of OTTD or will we have to wait until a newer version comes along? I'm not comfortable with the nightlys and prefer the stable release.
If you can't read this it's because you have no invisible ink de-invisibilizer.

Hi Jonatan, sorry I don't understand the question. Can you ask it differently? :D

Hi,

This set doesn't come along with OpenTTD. You can download it seperately.

Furthermore, the current stable version of OpenTTD is 1.3.2, not 1.2.3

The successor of FISH is squid. Conceptionally somewhat different (see further up in this topic) but nevertheless giving you a complete selection of ships for every task at hand in OTTD from 1870-2050. Yes, this includes steamers. Still a lot to do but patience will be rewarded. :D

Yes! The steamships were by far my favorites. I was worried they'd be out the window.
