Badger - on that occasion there probably was a good reason, and it seemed to be an exception to be that far off the ball. There have been others which wouldn't match up as nicely as my example (ie where they start off in the same place, both make one run and then leave coupled together), but I regularly see a 156 go to Morecambe (at about 3-3:30pm?) when a 142 or 153 goes to Barrow, much more full. I'm not sure what happens to the 156 on that one, though - I suspect it becomes a busier rush hour run to Barrow a little later, which would be reasonable.
It doesn't bother me too much - I'm a 22 year old lad, I can stand for an hour with a few people around - it just seems a little odd that you see a rammed smaller train next to an empty larger one occasionally.

Apparently we hear more about this on Tuesday, so I've read.
Strangely, some friends I know seem more concerned about how the livery will look after more than the actual franchise

To be fair, for those of us living away from the WCML the livery will be the most noticeable change anyway

Being fair, I do use WCML every so often, although quite frankly I couldn't give a toss who runs it, as long as they keep it running how it is currently, pretty damned good. I'm more concerned with what's going to happen to what Northern have, what with that expiring soon, and me using it every day.
I do however think some people far over react to the concept of having a new TOC on their favorite line. realistically, i don't think that much would ever change, unless you fap over liveries and will be completely upset that you may no longer have a fappable livery.

Oddly enough, I was once on a 153 that ran out of fuel on the ECML. Staggering mismanagement that such a thing could happen.
haha, how the f do they let that happen.

And that's the problem I have with trainspotters.

Still prefer the old Intercity Swallow livery myself
Also, I've read that Branson is going to put up a bit of a fight for the franchise. Legally perhaps? Depending on where you read information from.

I do hope so. ICWC under the auspices of First Group? Are you for real? How can the government do that after the FGW debacle?

I actually kinda like the First livery, although admittedly, it does look a bit poo on that train. Perhaps that's cause i've only ever seen it on 185s.
