Awesome artwork Michael as always. :)
If I'm not mistaken there is also an teaser of DBSet v0.9 in that pic, like that one in Wile's thread yesterday, really nice ;)

It seems the patch devs and the graphic artists are adding yet another dimension to this game. Will it ever stop? (I hope not).

Will those river tiles let me have a lake at higher altitude?

Currently they cost the same, ups they should cost the same as canals tiles.
Maybe we can introduce a cost multipler action variable, not sure yet...

Well, if you only use one tile, you have a small round lake... You are still a bit limited to the squarish ttd world, I don't think big lakes will look that good...

Why not? And with a varying snowline, you Swedes may even get frozen lakes. 8)

Is that a promise?
:-)

As a side note: It is very seldom that the lake Vättern is completely frozen, even if there's a long, cold winter. About once in ten to fifteen years, I think. Actually, I only remember two winters when it was, but as I don't live near it anymore (the last 27 years), I don't keep a record...

Lots of frozen lakes in Canada ... even the Great Lakes ...
Its been asked but there seems to be lacking an answer ... Will the lakes be available in the scenario editor?

Awesome work with the graphics (as always) Micheal, and awesome work with the code Eis_os! Can these rivers only be created tile-by-tile in the scenario editor, or do they randomly flow downhill from a specified starting location.

If they can flow downhill from a specidied starting location how do we stop them flooding towns and cities? If this is how they will work can we have a sign cheat to "spawn" a new river in our existing games?

Keep up the great work!

It looks kinda unnatural, but that's probably just because these new watersides are so round an smoothy in contrast to the hard 45°-edges with the original coastlines. (Yes, if I think over it, the original sprites also look unnatural, but probably we got used to them ). Btw, they remember me slightly of the SimCity 2000 watersides ^^.

Apart from that: Great work :D.

Thanks for your kind words, gentlemen. And now ...

ATM, these river tiles are used the same way canal tiles are. O/c, one could think of more sophisticated possibilities, like automatic generation of rivers in the game´s initial phase or in the scenario editor. But this would require a lot of additional work. In the first place, we´d need to find a simple "river algorithm" which would be stable under TTD´s special limits.

Oskar wanted his rivers "winding" and he got winding rivers. 8)

Initially, I had proposed a system like the original coast system (i.e., including vertical and horizontal riverbanks as well) but apparently, this would be too much work, ATM. Meanwhile, I got used to the current system, which does look indeed better (concept-wise) than I feared in the beginning.

And with support of random sprites, it will even get better.
Btw, they remember me slightly of the SimCity 2000 watersides ^^.
I´ve never had a look into SimCity except the very first version. 8)

Well, yes. My fault. OK, I just set up a list, and currently I have five entries:

Code: Select all

Nationalities which may use frozen lakes in TTDPatch
----------------------------------------------------

- Swedes (except from Skåne and Blekinge)
- Canadians (unlimited)
- Swiss (except from Ticino and Valais)
- Finns (unlimited)
- Norwegians (any limits required?)
If other people like to get added, just give me a call. 8)

What? No ice in Germany? Too much global warming?

By the way ... there is a way to build bridges across rivers. Canal banks make convenient supports for bridge pylons.

Yes, that works. OTOH, the latest Nightly (r1562) supports bridges and ships on rivers.
