I prefer i51 [fc e8 3c] yellow for headlights and i165 [fc 64 58] redish for taillights on. But in any case yellowish is better than whiteish.

That T43 looks good now, can I have the sprites (in correct size) and some stats.

T43: Here's the .pcx (with your light recommendations)

Stats

Weight: 72 tonnes (72000 kg)
Power: 1065 kW
Speed: 90 km/h
Built: 1961-63 (Still in active use)
'Pulling power' (I don't know the English for this): 800 tonnes

Has been used both for freight and passenger trains, nowadays normally only freight.

From http://www.jarnvag.net/lokguide/T43.asp and http://www.tgojtrafik.se/kapacitet-resu ... ellok.html

As you can see in the second link, the proportions of the engine was better in my 32 px version, the 24 px one looks a bit 'compressed'. Actually, the 24 px variant looks quite much like a Z66 (http://www.jarnvag.net/lokguide/Z66.asp)

Looks good, now I just need the specifications so I can add it to the set.

Following your recommendations about scale (and all the other info), I think the Rc6 should be redrawn. A bit shorter, a bit more roof, and Swedish looking pantographs:

By all means, go ahead, any improvements are welcome and this one does look much better. The only thing, I would change, is the top bit (the bar) of the pantograph - I would make that only 1 pixel wide. And may be add some texture to the side (use 2 different oranges). Otherwise keep up the good work.

OK, fixed the pantographs. Here's the rest of the views too, I'm not particularily satisfied with the front/back in the diagonal views, but the engine is definitely recognizable...

Edit: Added a preliminary drawing of the Ra engine engine

Nice work, but, I think you could make it a bit less boxy. You've done it in the || views; how about making the edge pixels in /\ and = views a lighter colour. I just looked at some pics, there are also 2 doors, 1 between centre windows 1 + 2 and one on the right hand side of the driver cabin. Try and do 1 pixel wide door and steps in a touch darker colour.

That Ra looks promising.

Never satisfied, are you :-)

What about this, then?

Never, there is always room for improvements. Yes it does look much better now. I'll try to see whether we can improve the front and rear a bit too.

Anders, trust me, it helps you become a better artist. The Canset's improved considerably. Somuch so, that I have to redraw half my older sprites to make them look good. Having a coder that demands quality is never a bad thing.

Nice looking locos BTW.

Thanks guys, I hope you noticed the smiley. It is very encouraging to get your comments, it tells me that my graphics are not hopeless. But the / \ views are certainly difficult! So few pixels, so much to express...

I have tried creating the diagonals for the Ra for over an hour now. No good. Can you recommend any existing .grf I could look at to get inspiration?

Check the Dutch trainset thread, my NS 1500 is rather similar, as is my EP5 from the USSet

My guess is that you mean the NS 1200. The 1500 doesn't have such a shape.

The || view looks perfect; with the = view, try to remove the upper far left and right pixel to make it a touch rounder and I think the pantos (the up one especially) could do with some work.

BTW, I haven't been able to work on the Rc6 yet.

The Ra has an almost flat nose, rounded top only. I've tested with those pixels removed, and I'm not completely sure about it. Three variations below.
I think the pantos (the up one especially) could do with some work.
Definitely. After looking at DanMacK's sprites, I know exactly which pixels to steal :-)
BTW, I haven't been able to work on the Rc6 yet.
No hurry. The pantos need the same rework on this one.

Edit: OK, here's the Rc with new pantos, and the Ra with a first iteration of very bad-looking diagonals. Aaarrrgh! Among all the other problems, it looks too low.

The || and = views look very good and those /\ views look very respectable too, you do have talent, although I still don't like (/\ views only) the pantos and the rear end may need to have a pixel or two added/removed.

Try adding them back again, but make them a lighter colour; this seems to make it look rounder.
... it [Ra] looks too low.
I don't think so, but the height in /\ and = views are always the same, only the length differs.

Some minor modifications, but I'm certainly not satisfied with it. I think the Ra will have to rest for a while, while I draw something simpler. I must study 'pixelization' a bit more before continuing on those rounded ends...

@AndersI : Some mods to the Rc6 :

|| views : row of redish pixels (above top headlight). Doubled top headlight (there are actually 2 and it makes it more centred).
/\ views : new front (windows, snowplow, moved rear lower headlight) and removed 2 pixels and rounded corners at the rear. Roof and pantos are untouched (Have you got a roof without pantographs ?)
-- views : pantographs modified

Feel free to use as much of my mods as you wish.

OzTransLtd wrote:Feel free to use as much of my mods as you wish.
Thanks! I used all of them, but then I started fiddling with the pixels again...

|| views: mirrored the windows, now the lighter shades are to the right
_ views: very slightly darker red on the pantos, lighter front (right) window
\ / views: a little more red in the ploughs, lots of changes in the windows (and adjacent areas)

Sorry, no, I don't have a plain roof as I started from the original blue/black Rc6 (who did that one, BTW? I really should ask for explicit permission) and just changed something here, something there...

Edit: I made a variation of the / view, one pixel displacement in the ends. I think both the front and (especially) the back end looks better this way. See picture.

Side track:

Comparing drawing to programming, I'm still in the 'hacking' phase, just changing things to see what happens. I don't have an organized toolbox and no very explicit plan.
