The problem is that the mask files works very different with white and grey.

That stairs is pretty odd.
And besides the stairs, there aren't any details...

It looks more like some kind of pipes than stairs to me.

Two pipes connected with a lot of little pipes?

I see what you are trying to do. I think it might help if you fill up the horizontal parts and add supports for it.

I like it, but the ladder is a bit strange. Also, You can add some elements on top (pipes,
safety valves).

Hey all, I'm new here obviously.
I found OTTD this past weekend and have been playing it almost non-stop. I've enjoyed it so much that I want to contribute back to the community by trying to do what I can. I've always wanted to pick up modeling at some point, so this was as good of an excuse as any to give it a shot. I'm mostly looking for criticism on what I've done so far and for further tips in using Blender.
To start, I've picked up the 1x1 country house as listed on the wiki and made an initial WIP attempt to model it. I know I'm still missing a lot of items and details (such as the bush and other scenery) but it's a slow process since I'm new to blender.

Welcome to the forums!
Seems like a good start for your first model
I think it looks a bit weird to have the roof of the small part directed towards the wall of the large part of the building. Might lead to some water problems. Maybe turn it around, or just do like the original (if you look closely, the roof on the small part goes only one direction).

Actually, looking closely at the original it is how he's done it.
I still vote for changing it.

You're right... the original graphics looks weird when you look to closely.

Though water issues probably aren't a big issue (snow would be a much bigger issue), it does indeed look a bit weird. Maybe when it's all done it would look just fine though.
I don't think changing it into a one-'slope' roof would really work either though, so I guess the best solution is rotating 90 degrees.
But indeed, a nice start for your first model! I never get those programs to do what I have in my mind

.

I think a slightly sloped roof under a smaller angle, or a flat roof, would look best.
I wouldn't rotate the roof direction, that'd look pretty odd.

I say just switch it to a
Upright and Wing design.

I had thought about that when I was originally modeling it, as a half roof would've made much more sense in regards to water/snow. I think I'll try to play around with the roof some and see if I can't get it to make more sense. Either more flat, or with the upright and wing design Circeus posted.
