Speaking of all these test versions, how's the new one coming?

Very good if I do say so myself. A LOT of new features have been added, and A LOT of interesting locos as well. I'll post some previews shortly, and I'm sure Pikka will chime in too. Don't want to give too much away just yet though

Let's just say it's a very comprehensive set...

Just to give you a rough idea of how much we've added so far, the NFO has just reached 10,000 sprites long. The old NARS was 2992 sprites, and the UKRS is about 4000.

Some screenies from a basic test game. Mainly a showcase, not really functional

The set also makes extensive use of recolour callbacks to provide colour variations, especially on freight cars. This allows us to have a lot of variations with relatively few real sprite sets; in the boxcars shown below, for example, there are only two different real sprites used.

Great job
No graffiti?

Really, though - that's an impressive use of recoloring.

Hmm...
I was about to say that Dash 7 is in the wrong livery, but we haven't updated that one yet.

For those who are interested, the planned locomotive list is
here. A + at the beginning of a line means it's drawn and coded, a - means that it exists from the old version but hasn't been updated.

One small comment - and I have to admit, I don't play with the NARS, I'm kinda emotionally attached to the original US Set. But I saw your remark about, does anybody use the Shay? I'm assuming you've set yours basically the same as the one in the US set, and that one, I do use. Admittedly it's quite a highly specialized loco, and I rarely use more than a couple, but there are definitely niche applications in mountainous terrain where they are essential and profitable. The TE does actually make a quite significant difference in TTD, IF you are using freighttrains 5 as I do, and IF you are trying to drag something up a hill. Of course, once the modern diesels come in, the Shay is instantly obsolete; but for the early part of the game, they can at least break even, and feed profitable vectors. E.g. the forest is at the foot of the hill and the sawmill is on the peak; the Shays will break even dragging the logs up the hill, and normal trains can make good money hauling the goods to a city. Without the Shay, I discovered there just was no way to make that sort of situation work. That's why I added it to the set. So there's your argument... Does anybody ELSE use the Shay?

Hehe..
Don't worry, the Shay's not going anywhere.

Well, they do tend not to, at least not very quickly.

I've ued the Shays from the original US Set. I'm like Krtaylor, I like the original US Set a bit more (Though I have played the NARS, and it is very good too). Mostly I've used the Shay for heavy, short hauls with hills, or, once in a while, as somewhat of a tourist railroad. Kind of fun to have. Eye candy, more than anything there.
But they do have a use, just that they, like their real life counterparts, are specialized.
