He has the use original houses parameter on, and if you turn it off in game, it screws up your towns, I know because I've done this

... I knew something looked odd when I looked at my own pics but I couldn't quite put the finger on it... thanks guys
I haven't played OpenTTD in ages before this game... maybe the setting is new, cause I don't remember changing it before starting the game and a few months back when I last played I used to just load TTRS and the new buildings where on by default (I re-downloaded everything cause my laptop was away for repairs a couple of times...)
I will just turn the new buildings on for the next game

Thanks

well I'm a quick builder and I started the game earlier than usual (around 1830-1850, can't remeber exactly)
Usually I play with DBsetXL so I'm forced to start 1920...
...what disturbs me though is if you want to use trucks to distribute supplies or trams to build a passenger feeder system you only have vehicles that do like 15 kph... takes some getting used to
And now back to the pics:
Pic 1 and 2 show two other main stations of the passenger network which will need to be expanded soon
Pic 3 is a not up-to-date network map... a new and quite profitable branch for wood has allready built towards the mountains in the south-west

As the other game started to stagnate a bit I started a new one, returning to my first love, DBsetXL
The game started in 1925 and in the first 4 years was able to establish 3 profitable rail links as well as 2 ferry lines.
The company is based in Hamburg.
Here are the first impressions:

A few years have passed and the scenery around Hamburg has changed a bit.
Hamburg Altona, our main hub, has grown, and a train yard has been built outside the city where you can see unused locomotives which have been replaced by newer models avaiting their next assignment.
If you look closely at the pictures you will notice that I commited one of the most extreme crimes among OTTD players: I changed my NewGRFs ingame

(the bridges were conflicting with another NewGRF so I removed the offender cause I really don't like the look of the original bridges...)
Everything still appears to work fine for the moment...

... I'm still alive !
Haven't been here for almost a year now cause real life kept me quite busy
(this baby of mine on the pic from this topic is now a little over 2 years old

)
I cleaned the dust away from my imaginary OTTD CD and started playing again, but wasn't quite sure what to do ingame... so I thought I'd try a new approach:
why not turn this screenshot topic into something interactive... I post a map, a town and industry list, as well as a newgrf list and YOU tell me what to build !
... hope I'll get a few suggestions this way and maybe this will be the start of something interesting

Do we need to be realistic or can we suggest silly things and give you some real difficult challenges?

I'm always a fan of high mountain stations requiring ludicrous switchback elements to ascend the grade. I know trains can ascend a direct vertical elevation so there needs to be an arbitrary rule of no vertical ascents of more than one tile for every four horizontal tiles.
I quite enjoyed your screenshots. I'm a particular fan of before and after type shots that show a stations humble beginnings and how it transformed over time to a complicated behemoth. Keep it up as RL allows.

@Purno: depends on how silly you mean... I guess somewhere in between realistic and silly... it's supposed to be a bit of a challenge for me, but it should stay fun too
@Xeryon: I too like to choose tracklayouts sometimes because it looks better than just a straight line, even though it's not necessary from a gameplay point of view
btw, I guess there will be more before/after pics coming soon
So, here goes:
attached you will find my map, with city, industry and newgrf lists... I wonder what you will have me do first !
disclaimer: I'm not sure I'll be able to play every day, so don't worry if I don't post pics right after someone suggested something

... that's also why I choose to start with a smaller map for now...
btw, I know there's a warning sign in my grf list... that warning tells me to adjust plane speed to 1/1, which I did before starting that game... the warning just won't go away...

So little GRFs...

I think you should start off on the big island at the north edge of the map. Try connecting the towns up in a small train network. Or maybe ships!

Indeed, but hey, GRFs are the only thing he can choose himself. From now on, we'll decide what he has to do

All these towns are isolated. Lets build a network of roads connecting all these towns. For the islands, it's either a bridge or a ship/ferry.
(These roads will give you some more challenge later if you want to build railroads and stuff

)

I know it doesn't seem like much, but I prefer to keep my list clean... cause I know I won't be able to make good use of everything at every epoch...
... but
argh I noticed I forgot to add ISR... damn! will have to do without it somehow...
Ok, I'll go for a passenger road link on the big island and ferry on the small one...
... I should be able to get started tommorrow and maybe even post some pics right away

You can still add ISR and whatever else you like, by changing a line in openttd.cfg:

Probably, but not always! If there are some major changes, be careful with that!

And here we go:
The year 1922 sees the foundation of the Generic Island Transport Company, or GITC for short.
The first two passenger links are a city steambus line in Hahnberg as well as a passenger horse carriage connection to the neighboring towns of Arnsbach and Heideldorf
Time will tell how this small company will grow
EDIT... shortly after the start, passenger numbers where groing so fast that the vehicles on the above-mentionned lines where doubled and an additional horse carriage was bought to travel on the Hahnberg-Arnsbach branch
