I dont know if this should be posted here or else where, but we will see.
Does anyone know the copyright of the current sound files?
I only ask as I was around my parents yesterday and played a Wii for the first time.
In Wii Sports - Wii Tennis the is a sound when you score a point.
I am SURE this is the same Wow sound you get in TransportTycoon when a new vehical is launched or a station opens etc.
Anyone else with access to a Wii want to check and make sure its not just me being loopy?!

There's loads of sounds in TTD heard everywhere else - Movies, radio, other games. They all come from the same source and aren't made by the developers themselves.

Two new (chainsaw and the electric spark)...
I'd say they both are done though some TTD atmosphere could be added!
Please comment, I need to know what you think.

I really, really like the chainsaw and electricity sounds. But I don't like the OOohhhh sound; it sounds like one person, chorused, while it should be done with several different voices.

atm I don't have the time to read through the whole thread.
but after some time of inactivity I would really appreciate with the sound design.
In a view days I will hopefully
Soundman OKM equipment and then I will record everything that comes to my ears! *hehe*
Hopefully, there will be some useful things for my contribution... (I'm especially thinking of street and train noise to add when the whole sound system will be renewed)

Hi,
I've been lurking around these forums for quite a long time now. I made some sound effects (in fact, edited some sounds, found on
http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/). Now I'm posting them, because maybe that way they won't get lost on my hdd. Comments are welcome

Erm pramoewn...
When you use sounds from the Freesound Project, you have to credit the author(s)!
And if we used these sounds in OTTD we had to credit each of them as well...
Don't just copy and edit the works of others without giving them any credit...
And of course, it's not only a question of morality, but the CC license requires this as well, so it's an infringement of the law!
@Ploes:
I heard some of the TTD Sounds in other games and even in TV. Either people using those sounds are quite shameless, or the creators of TTD used sound from a production library which is still used today.
\\edit: oh sorry, didn't see Born Acorn's post!

@pramoewn About your samples:
02 - Splat - Very good, though kinda hits the skull => Needs a little bass added
10 - Train Horn - Suites the diesel's though I think it should have an echo or double voice added. Check attached.
12 - Electric Spark - You used the same sample as I did, though I tried to give some environmental feel to it (
If you missed my sample)
22 - Morse - Though it is with the same rhythm as the original, the quality is a bit worse I have to say for a 44 Khz sound!
24 - Helicopter - It is good, but it is more like a helicopter flying by than it would lift off, though TTD sound is the same

+ Did the sample already contain those Hisses/Chords(there are 3)?
29 - Applause - Good, cannot comment anything specific on them.
37 - Cow - the start already gave the though that it was voiced. Try few more times maybe it will get more realistic!
I've made a few more sounds:

And one more + an updated version of pramoewn train horn!

Guys, please keep in mind what I said...
It's very nice that you want to contribute, but the sounds are worthless if we can't use them!
Only post sounds of your own or of which you own all the necessary rights.

Creative Commons clearly states that we can do anything we want with the licensed subject IF we follow two primary rules. Which are:
1) Use for non-commercial purposes
2) Contribute to the author
SO WHY CAN'T WE USE THESE?
Though just found out -
Under the following conditions:
No Derivative Works. You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

Yeah that's what I said, we had to credit them somewhere. Okay, we could do that, but then where should we do that? In the in-game info dialog? could be a big list of names... And of course it depends on the devs whether they want to use CC-licensed files within the game.
But actually, my problem was not using CC-licensed sounds at all (because as I said with proper crediting it would be no legal problem), but the way pramoewn posted them. Like "oh, I found some files, not mine, just edited them. want to use them?". That's not okay. The obligation of crediting includes posting those files in a forum like this, especially if you post them with the intention of "we could use these for the game". So please provide information about the original author of each of these files.

Sorry about that. I wasn't familiar with working with the CC license. I still have the original files at home, so when I get back, I will post that information.

Yes, I thought that too, when I heard your electric spark, but uploaded mine anyway

Maybe you're right, but I think it should sound something like that. By the way I like your version better.
Pendrokar wrote:

This was the closest one I could find on the freesound project's page.
Pendrokar wrote:

As far as I remember it IS a real cow, but I will check it at home
