So you want to have a status? Ok: It's still in XeryusTCs coding pipeline.

People are in this game for fun. They do it when they "can be bothered". Not only that, you need to treat .grf projects like these as personal hobby pieces - that is essentially what they are. People work at their own pace for the most part. They may very well get bored and shelve it while they amuse themselves with something else. For me, that's photography, Red*Star might be working on something else at the moment, or be pre-occupied with more serious affairs.

When you consider aswell that a lot of contributing members have been around for quite a few years, a 2 year old project doesn't seem that long. Purno is correct, the Dutch set has been around for four years, there are many other projects that have been around for multiple years.

A lot of projects naturally go on a hiatus, could be for a week, could be for a year.

Best thing you can do is support them, not pester.

This should answer your question:
Red*Star wrote:So you want to have a status? Ok: It's still in XeryusTCs coding pipeline.
XeryusTC wrote:Which is currently very occupied with other projects too :P.
Other projects involve school, work, and all kinds of other stuff.

Nothing more to say.

Except this:
Thx@Aegir for your detailed opinion which I share, but I don't think ColdIce wanted to pester, at least I didn't felt so.
@ColdIce: I also would like it to see this set released, but as long as I don't have the time to learn coding (I think it wouldn't be *that* hard for me, and I'd really love to do so, but I am currently fully occupied with my studies and will also continue to be it in the future) I also have to accept that XeryusTC has no time for it. Maybe because he's as occupied as I am, maybe because he doesn't feel like doing it - both would be ok for me.

However, you know the saying "Good things come to those who wait.". ;)

Cheers,

Red*Star

Don`t get me wrong. I dont want to pester anyone! I never realised that many grf are made in so much time. I apreciate all artists work and I know that all of you have a private life, but when you see projects like this one you just can`t wait anymore!

How true ... just like "Good food takes time to prepare" but at least one can smell those delectable aromas as the chef works his magic in the kitchen. Now imagine the diner's disappointment if after a tantalizing period of patience, the waiter comes out and instead of bringing a tray of delicious food, the waiter brings a message that the chef had a pressing engagement and had to suddenly leave. Or worse ... "The chef ran off and we have no idea where he went" ... or even worse ... "The chef has tired of cooking and has decided to try something else for a while". Imagine the poor diner's frustration ... especially since the chef did not arrange for his kitchen to be taken on by another chef ... or perhaps the chef had taken on more diners than he could handle and either refused or did not think to ask for help.

In the case of TTDX, the Patch and OTTD, it is rare that an artist runs off without notice. Usually the problem arises when the artist is dependent upon a coder who delays or abandons the project without having the consideration to attempt to arrange or look for another coder to take up the challenge. Usually the artist is as disappointed as the diner (the player) but he waits patiently in the hopes that his coder will do the right thing. Usually the result is that the artist becomes discouraged and fades away as his project lies fallow, his dreams as well as those of his admirers consigned to the dust of time, never to see the light of a wonderful screen shot or the smile of a happy player. The really sad thing is the coder will excuse himself by saying that there aren't enough coders around so why bother to ask. The simple fact is that if a project has merit, and this one certainly does, someone will be willing to step up to the plate and take it on. All one has to do is ask.

As for projects taking as long as several years to complete, this is very understandable, especially if the project is very complex. Also we all know that real life does happen and family, work and school must be attended to, sometimes without warning, but what is utterly unacceptable is when one says they have a new hobby and they do not have the common decency to invite someone else to continue a project. I realize that this is not your and XeryusTC's situation, but it definitely is that of others who have posted comments in these forums when someone has inquired about the status of a project.

Red*Star, we all admire your work and your patience. XeryusTC, we all know that you are still coding and will return to this project in good time. Its good to know that this project is not abandoned and will eventually see the light of day and I apologize for this rant. It's just that I'm a little bit frustrated by some of the comments posted by others not involved in this project when someone shows interest in your excellent efforts. We don't ask to poke you into action. We ask because we care.

I must say that your little rant is quite inspiring wallyweb, and it is one of the few long posts that I take the time for to read entirely :). I hope that I will have more free time in the future, or at least be able to set aside some of my other hobbies but currently I have little time left to even play TTD. I certainly will not say that I will stop doing this project until another coder can say that he has made more progress with it on his own, and even then I might still make my own version. I've had too much fun and I have put too much time and effort into this project to let it all go to waste, I just have to regain some time to work on it again.

I want this project to be finished as much as you want, Red*Star's graphics are too awesome to let it all go to waste :)

SHEAMLES BUMMMP!

ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this bump has no right to be prosecuted, for it is a righteous one. XeryusTC, aren't you into coding stuff since some time. and if not, can we contact someone like martyp to try and put this together? because, seriously, these are some impossibly sexy stations.

Well dip me in melted butter. I had completely forgotten about these wonderful looking stations and that is a bit of a shame. Thank you Mr. Lobster for bringing them back into my consciousness. Red*Star has been poking his head around the OpenTTD 8bit graphics replacement thread of late so maybe...

I idneed did not have much time to work on this. I was going to clean it up and put it on SVN so other people could also have a whack at it, but I never really came around to do that. I will try to take a look at it later this week.

Heya Xeryus,

I was near to write you an email again to get the status, seems I got around this job ;). It would be really great if you could get it ready or at least into some testing state.

Btw, do you also have the plaza set ready/inWIP, or just the stations (it's so long ago that I nearly forgot what was your decision about what to do with the plazas...)?

I'm also rather busy atm, so I remain with best regards to all of you,

Accurate too.
Loughborough station is significantly shorter than an IC125 or long Meridian, inevitably resulting in a long walk down the train.
Don't i know it, stupidly long Voyagers, in a stupidly short station, who coulda thought that one up?

EDIT: Oops, apologies for digging up an incredibly old quote. I'm so going to get flamed for that
