Nice! I've been looking for North Shore cars! Where did you find them?

I created them using the MSTS2Loco and Vehicle Creator Programs. In other words, they aren't available anywhere. Eventually though...

Yeah I cant bring myself to replace the steamers... i wish there was a way to slow down the game.

Here they are sorted by profit so it's not quite as cool as it is when sorted by number.

Here goes.

So you get the absolute number from:

Code: Select all

#[type code][cargo code][section code][sequential number]
Type codes range 1-3:
  1. 1.) cargo
  • 2.) passenger/mail
  • 3.) switcher
cargo codes are more varied and depend on type codes.

Cargo:
  • 1.) Lumber
  • 2.) Coal
  • 3.) Iron Ore
  • 4.) Oil
  • 5.) Chemicals
  • 6.) Grain/Livestock
  • 7.) Steel
  • 8.) Paper
  • 9.) goods
  • (1)0.) Food
Town items:
  • 0.) Direct express (named trains, 2 cities)
  • 1.) Subway
  • 2.) Commuter (above ground inside a city)
  • 3.) Local Services (intercity)
  • 4.) Express (faster, multiple cities, sometimes named)
  • 5.) Mail Special
Section codes correspond generally to the 5 different 'snake' parts of the map and tell you where a train does most of it's work and the systems it's involved it

The sequential number is the two digit number of the train against all others on the same route (ie: 01, 02, 11,24...)

From there you go to the rest of the name:

For cargo/ switchers:

Code: Select all

[Absolute number][cargo, ie: lumber]
IE:

Code: Select all

#11101 Lumber
For Passenger and Mail trains:

Code: Select all

[Absolute number][Name, if applicable][City code 1]-[City code 2]-[City code 3]...
IE:

Code: Select all

#24101 Easterner O-W-L-W
City codes are simply the first letter of the name of the city and are in the order that the services stops at them; they can appear twice in one name-scheme.

As you can guess all long freights have a number of #1XXXX and all passenger/mail trains #2XXXX, switchers are #3XXXX and are trains whose purpose it is it to move freight to the larger stations from its origin. Switchers are very effective:

So... Much... Oil...

There are also about 5 trains at the moment with a number of:

Code: Select all

X[#XXX]
These are simply sequentially numbered with a three digit number prefixed not with # but X and function as either static display engines or rolling stock or the special sound bulldozers.

IE:

Code: Select all

X001
X002
I will need to expand the number system if I use a map with more cargo (ie: auto mod)
I could do this with two digit cargo codes and would probably be capable of filling all needs with that.
