OK, here's my opinion on the subject:
The bridge sprites are fortunately independent of any other grf, the only dependance is the running surface (anyone has a better word for it?).
So I think it would be the best, if no other GRF file contained anything of the newbridges project. That way the compatibility would be in the newbridges file itself, and any update made to it, would not effect the other sets.
So all in all: I'd like to ask Hyronymus to include his newer Euroroadset sprites in the newbridges file, and at the same time, remove the bridge sprites from the CRS.
-edit- ARGGH why do I always get to start a new page?

That's an option but I don't see a real benefit in it. First because of the work Lakie put into merging both sets but also because it just works. What I don't quite understand is why this set is still maintained because I thought I agreed with Purno that any updates will be submitted to the Combined Roadset

.

The benefit would be, what I wrote. That the bridge sprites are actually independent, and a roadset is not.
IMHO that fact alone grants for an independent bridge set. On top of that, any user would not likely to remember that the CRS is the set, that contained the bridges, while the name "newbridges" speaks for itself.
Lakie told me, that he 'only' copied my code, did not modify it. He also said something along the lines of not really understandig bridges code (Lakie, pls correct me, if I'm wrong).
I don't want to enforce anything, and I don't want to degrade Lakie's work on CRS. I just think it's more sensible, to not bundle a universal (as in, fits most roadsets') bridge set, with a specific roadset.
As for the "What I don't quite understand is why this set is still maintained" I'm surpirsed you ask this. Why shouldn't it be maintained? There are new roadsets coming out, and some people want support for narrow gauge rails. Are you willing to code them?
I think, since I coded them, it's the easiest way if I change the grf file. I have the source, and my comments, so it's much easier for me, that for someone else, to understand my structure.
The CRS bundle would really be beneficial, if it contained all the available roadsets too, but that's not likely an option.

Don't get me wrong - it should still be updated to include the latest developments but my 'vision' was, and I though Purno agreed with me, that we should include all future developments into the Combined Roadset right away.

Yeah. Well, at least bridge updates. Dunno about new road set updates?
But two version is getting confusing, IMO...

No, sorry, I was wrong. I just remembered that the CRS switches itself off whenever another bridge set is activated:

Another thing is that I cannot use Purno's bridges together with Pikkabird's viaduct, even though BR_viaduct is above COMBROADW. This did not happen when Purno's bridges were a separate grf. Rob's cantilever bridges work fine with the viaduct.
Now you can understand why I don't use the CRS. I don't like to run my trains on 32km/h bridges for over 20 years.

Would there be any interest in supporting Japanese roads, and maybe Shinkansen tracks?
Also, do you think it would be reasonable to ask if this bridge set could be included in the "official" GRF list on the Patch website?

Well, that would be cool indeed. Roads were easy to include, IIRC, but new railway tracks were harder, IIRC.

Hmm... indeed, that would rock.

If it matters, I support the inclusion of a comprehensive new bridge-set on the official Patch graphics list, and AFAIK, yours is the biggest and best.
You can find the Shinkansen tracks and Japanese road graphics on the tracking site under Scenery:

well, thx
Ok, I guess Szappy will try to include them?

I can. I only need the sprites. And someone needs to alter the file I posted
here, because I'm not doing it again and again for every single roadset.
I'm a coder, not a pixel pusher...
-edit- Rereading my post it seems a bit harsh, so let me explain. That was not a negative comment towards graphic artists, in fact I didn't even think of garphic artists. What I was saying, is that the work is actually 'pushing some pixels by a few pixels' and I'm getting mighty tired of it. I've done all I can to simplify the process, all I ask is set of sprites, and I'll do the rest.

You got permission of the author to post the GRF here? It's usually better to link to their website, FYI.

Speaking of which, would it be possible to get permission to include that viaduct in the bridge set?

Ask PikkaBird.

Hmm, I'll ask him. I'll send him a PM.

I got a reply;

What would you think if your stone viaduct gets included in my bridgeset? Someone suggested it.
Cheers,
