So, the BM branch from Biltmore took five votes, the street railway from Benton just one. Works started just after the conclusion of the ballot. Today, September 3rd... 1914 , the first train from Bay Minette has arrived in Benton Harbor!
Space in town was scarce and there was no place for a passing siding. The only solution was to build a wye where the whole train can be turned without uncoupling the engine from the coaches.

Bay Minette 1914

After the success of the first ballot, I put to vote a second project of Bay Minette Railroad. Freight traffic along the Bay Division has increased causing several delays on the inner part of the division, the so called West Side Line, between Bay Minette and Benton Junction. The BM has studied two different solutions.

Solution 1 involves doubling the track of the West Side Line between Rochelle Junction and Benton Junction. It seems the best choice as both passenger and freight trains could advantage of a two-track railroad eliminating stops at passing sidings, but it will be difficult to find a place for the second track in Rochelle area as the railroad lays directly on the shores of the bay.

Solution 2 leaves the unmodified West Side Line to passenger traffic as all freight trains will be diverted on a new route, called East Side Line, between Biltmore and Bay Minette 16th Street Yard. This option is cheaper, but instead to have one two-track line we'll have two single track lines (i.e. trains still will wait at passing sidings for meetings, athough less frequenlty).

Here is a screenshot that can help you to survey the area:

Now it's your time to vote: solution 1 (double tracking the West Shore Line) or 2 (building the East Side Line) !

I vote two because the pax train can still use the west side main while the freight can use the east side track to avoid the reversing to get in the yard.
Something goes here, hell if I know.

Couldn't be a third solution of build the East side line and signal it as an one way track to Bay Minette, and then changing the signals on the West line to one way from Bay Minette? This may need a new tunnel from the 16 Th Street yard to Rochelle, but it still leave a lot more space than the 1st solution.

Not very realistic though.

I like the way you build your network and Bay Minette is one of the nicest scenarios I´ve played so far. Connecting Bay Minette is tricky, but I think none of the given choices offers a solution which will last for long. What about a new double line in the middle while moving the depot elsewhere. Bay Minette is a rather big town, there will be a lot of traffic soon, better reserve some place for future enlargement of the station now. (or move the station to the south and connect it with downtown Bay Minnette with a Metro (2cc) or interurbans)

Let's start with the map!

Central & Northern Railroad

In this year the Central & Northern Railroad has opened its first standard gauge line, called Berkly Division, between Powder and Berkly, first step of an ambitious link to Bay Minette. As the definitive route isn't decided, yet, for the moment the C&N operates a ship service along the Berlin Canal between Bald Eagle (terminal of the ononymous branch from Berkly) and Bay Minette.
The new Berkly Division parallels out of Powder the narrow gauge Powder River Division: now both Powder and Point Clear stations have tracks with two different gauges. The passenger train on the standard gauge line is the "Chippewa River Limited", providing a non-stop service between Powder and Berkly.

In Madison Creek the two gauges meet again. At present goods service from here to Powder travels via the narrow gauged Mountain Division as in Powder the standard gauge doesn't serve the freight yard.

The "Chippewa River Limited" is pulling in Berkly. Here there was not so much space where to build the station, but now it will be very hard to expand the facilities without filling part of the lake.

In these last two years two new railroad companies has been consolidated.

Patterson & Northeastern Railroad (P&NE)

This narrow gauge railroad has been founded mainly to bring gravel from the quarries around Berkly down to Patterson. At present the line has been completed just up to Griffith, future expansions are in the planning stage.
On the spur leading to the Ol' Hole Quarry a short train must be used because of the steep grade and lack of space in the quarry for a bigger loading tipple. In Griffith Yard two of these trains are coupled together for the trip to Patterson.

Patterson is served by two passenger stations, one for the BM and the other for the P&NE. A bus service provides transfer runs between the two depots. Out of town there is Wirral Yard, the main freight hub of the region. Here grain traffic from the P&NE is interchanged to the BM that carries it to Bay Minette 16th Street Yard. The refinery sees incoming oil trains from both the BM and the P&NE while the engineers yard, served by the Byron Road Spur, receives fuel oil from the refinery and gravel from Griffith.

Atlantic Electric

The second new company is called Atlantic Electric (AE); as the name suggests, it's an interurban railroad, born with the purpose to provide fast passenger services to every small town in the Midland. At present the AE has completed a line between Proctor and New Proctor via Peoria with a short branch to Port Ogden. The introduction of freight service is planned for the future.
Proctor is the eastern end of the AE; here passengers can cross the Redington River by a ferry and reach the WO&S in Satsuma.

AE service includes just two daily trips with two motors: a motor runs between Proctor and Winfield (via Port Ogden), the other from Peoria and New Proctor. The timetable is orchestrated to have a meet of both motors in Peoria, as the photo depicts.

Winfield is home of the only interchange with the steam railroad world. Here passengers can exchange between the electric cars and the BM trains running on the Bay Minette – Patterson route.

Bay Minette 1920

Some screenshots about the art of interchanging between different railroad companies.
In the last three years the Atlantic Electric finally has started to run a number of grain trains from farms along its network to Winfield where freight cars are interchanged to the Bay Minette Railroad that carries them to its hometown brewery. Winfield station has consequentially been enlarged with three more tracks dedicated to receive and switch trains bewteen the AE and the BM.

Two Bends Junction has been chosen as the best location for the Bay Minette Railroad / Central & Northern Railroad interchange yard. Here C&N goods traffic coming down Berlin food processing plant and Madison Valley sawmill is transferred to the BM that hauls it to Bay Minette and Wheaton.

Bay Minette 1921

After months of pause I resume this game. Since last installment there is almost only one news, but a great one. The Bay Minette Railroad (BM) has just completed the Gread Division between Theodore, where it branches from the Midland Division, to Powder, where it ends at the newly built Avon Street station. The line allows the first non-stop link between Bay Minette and Powder, the two major cities in the region. Until now it was possible to travel between these two towns only via a very looong route operated by the competitor Central & Northern Railroad (C&N) (*). The Central Division includes the following stations:

Theodore, junction with the Midland Division
Clovis Junction, at-grade crossing with the Atlantic Electric (AE)
Cedar Rapids, passenger and mail transfer station with the Patterson & Northeastern Railroad (P&NE)
Cornelius Ridge
Clear Bridge Junction, connection with the C&N
Powder Avon Street, terminal station

Next duty is to double the track of the three remaining single-track sections on the Bay Division; with the all-two track line between Bay Minette and Theodore, the BM could increase the number of trains on the new Great Division, both passenger and freight.

(*) From Bay Minette to Duluth Center by ship, from Duluth Center to Powder Central station by train changing at Berkly.
The inaugural train of the Great Division has just leaved the Avon Street station in Powder. Two C&N passenger trains can be seen in the background.

Bridgeport, a very small town, is the heart of the BM where three of the four divisions merge each other. From northeast the Midland Division, from south the Bay Division, from northwest the Green River Division. The train from Powder Avon Street station is waiting at the entry signal to proceed into the Bank Street Junction and continue its travel down south to Bay Minette.

Bay Minette 1925

Cedar Rapids, five years ago...
1920-CedarRapids.png
The town was the heart of the Cedar Rapids Logging Company (CRLCo), a narrow gauge railroad company founded on logging business. A boring town, indeed!
(438.58 KiB) Downloaded 2 times
... and now.
1925-CedarRapids.png
Today the CRLCo has become a subsidiary of the Patterson & Northeastern (P&NE) after the completition of the line along the Berkly Valley. More logging camps were built in the woods around the town, bringing more work to the local sawmill.

In the meantime, the standard gauge Bay Minette Railroad (BM) has opened the Great Division between Theodore (near Bridgeport) and Powder. Now the town sees a great number of freight trains carrying goods from the Lower Yard to almost everywhere in the region. Other goods trains, like that one pulling into the Upper Yard, work the incoming traffic, all destined to the freight house close to the P&NE station.
