That looks excellent!
I don't honestly know how you end up with such perfect situations to create trackworks like that!
We really need PBS in OTTD before something like that becomes useful, but it looks superb!
Any more like that?

I often have to do a lot of terraforming in order to fit something like this in, It is worth it though because they look cool and are a really good way of getting heavy trains up a hill in a small area quickly. This one didn't require much terraforming though because it lies between two mountains so I could easily bridge the gap and then turn the tracks back under the bridges.

You only need PBS if you had a crazy junction like I have, you can build turnbacks just as easily without PBS
Any more like that?

Yeah, all on the same line. It takes an awkward route
This one is right near Prenfingley terminus and is really new (about 2 or 3 years) even though the line has been open about 55 years. The old line was a single track from the tunnel portals to the bottom of the slope and just nearly straight. There were a succession of steep slopes that caused problems with slower diesels. To increase capacity into the terminus the line needed doubling for these last 20 tiles so it was decided to eliminate the really steep sections of line.

The other big spriral is at Grenningstone. The mainline crosses itself 3 times to climb 7 tiles of height. The small spiral on the far left was an addition in the last 10 years (the line here is 62 years old) when this section was doubled and really steep gradients eliminated. The line used to just go from the tunnel portals at this spiral straight to the pieces of track that disappear off the edge of the shot. It was really steep

heh, great!
Now all I need is the persistence to play a game that long and to remember to take screen shots.
I can't wait for passenger destinations, that would make passenger worth doing.

The scenario should anyone want a look. Needs Newcargoes (by Michael Blunck) and that's about it I think.

Current save game. Needs DBSetXL, CanStations, Newstations, Newships and TTRS as well as Newcargoes.

I gave DaveWorley a shovel over in Sanchi's
Industrial Stations Renewal thread. I'll send him right over to help with that slide.
By the way, the citizens of Mardwood and other points thank you.
EDIT: Oh yes! Those spirals are really well done.

I'm suprised your passengers aren't sick with your rollercoaster-style lines - good s*** as always Gav

It's that or a 200 mile cross country ski

Thanks oh, and there are an extra two letters that belong after "Gav"

look at this place. then Look at what it was like 74 years earlier. It's now the biggest city on the map and has direct connections to the second (via a high speed line/normal line ICE service) and third (via a standard line ICE-TD service) and the fourth (via an Interregio service). Not bad for a town of 28!

impressive stuff, mate but one question, where do you get them trees?

Overheard at one of the local establishments, The Trunfingborough Arms ...
"It used to be such a pristine little community nestled quaintly in the mountains, surrounded by
SAC's stolen trees ... and now what do we have? Blight! We have Corporate generated urban blight!"

I must admit, I'm always a BIG fan of the "before and after" screenies, looks great!

Since certain people like before and after shots, here is a shot of Fort Banbridge in 1980 and in 2010.
It got a bit busy

1980, the line is about to doubled and electrified, the last train on the single line operated by a DMU heads towards Wondwood.

- SCR262.png (141.32 KiB) Viewed 1090 times
Wood, Iron ore, goods and a local, there are some 137mph expresses hauled by BR101s that pass through here but none are making an appearance at the moment. Blue Tigers and BR232s haul the freight over diesel lines while BR112s deal with the electrified freight and locals.

- SCR257.png (177.35 KiB) Viewed 1082 times
The cause of it all getting busy, iron ore and wood in, goods out. I've got to find room to run a steel flow out of here though.

Tinningpool is a major junction, thanks to Wallyweb and his insistence that I build a line through Mardwood has proved very useful for wood transit to the sawmill from the otherside of the map. It has now developed into a major freight area aswell with the iron ore mine and a timber yard.
Capacity on the mainline is limited however and something needed to be done about the large majority of 75mph wood trains that were slowing down passenger trains.

- SCR260.png (161.82 KiB) Viewed 1100 times
It was therefore decided to reduce the number of slower accelerating diesel hauled trains by changing locos to BR112s before they joined the mainline. As such the wood yard was expanded to cope with the increase of trains. Here is the newly expanded yard. An ICE-TD leaves the Mardwood line (which is now fully doubled) having just passed a sister unit bound for Lunninghead. A BR232 and Blue Tiger shunt in the yard as a BR112 hauled train departs from the other end. The iron ore loading point is deserted by the wagon works are patronised by a half rake of Self-discharging hoppers that are part of the iron ore wagon fleet.

That ICE looks out of place between all those freight yards and freight trains.

It would look better if the line it was on was double track, I admit, but space at this place is at a premium and having that section of line as single track was the best solution.

A long time of no playing but I have had this game going for a couple of weeks. It's 1973 and this a shot of my main station and cities. The cities are so large that they have their own metro stations. This massive shot shows the 3 main cities in their entirety and it is based (losely) on the Berlin model with the S-Bahn running parrallel to heavy rail lines on the approach to the main station. Unfortunately, I can't show you the main station, as requested by the author, so you have the massive white blob in the middle. Hopefully the rest of the shot will keep you entertained.
The maze of tracks are all used with freight running on the metro lines to avoid travelling through the central station. The metro line to the west of the Mannheim was built in the last 10 years to cater for the sudden boom of Mannheim.
