It gets tougher here as I have to do the peculiar Toyland things like bubble trucks and battery wagons, any ideas on how I can best represent them besides just copying the original stuff.

Maybe making the batteries bigger so you have something like one per wagon, more details for it.

Hmm, you don't suppose you could attach the battery farm graphics here or give me a link, I'm sure the original author won't mind if its for openGFX, also useful to me would be the openGFX present houses and the openGFX oil tanker (I hate tankers :mrgreen: )

Tried it again in alpha 6 to see if it had already been changed (as requested) but the font hasn't been changed since. Removed some pixels on R, X, S, s. Tried to change the a but didn't really succeed. Added pixel on w.

EDIT: mmm doesn't quote the picture (which most of the time is good, but not this time). Added it manually

Ho, I somehow missed this posting. Nice to see some progress. It's my impression, though, that the batteries on these cars are way paler than the batteries which grow on the battery farm. Or is my impression wrong?

They are the same, I took them straight from the battery farm.

Here's one for cola, I don't like tankers much so I've based it off the opoenGFX oil tanker, changed it to match the toyland theme and added some stripes to represent the cola company's logo or something.

They look nice IMO, especially the company logo idea is great. But while coding them, I noticed, that the cola wagons have a loaded and an unloaded stage, showing whether liquids are carried or not.
EDIT: also it appears to be 30 pixels instead of the 28 the other wagons are.

You don't need permission - if you publish your bus set under the GPL. For any other license, you'll have to ask each contributor of OpenGFX for his/her approval, I guess ;-)

You might have seen my work elsewhere in the OpenTTD community, but this is my first attempt on graphics. Hopefully it is not way too bad. ;-) [Edit: Actually now I remember that I did some graphics for the new main page at the wiki, but those got replaced by better images made by more skilled artists]

Since OpenGFX needs more graphics for toyland I decided to find some missing sprites that would be easy to replace. I have chosen the Fizzy drinks factory since I got a good idea on that one. Just have a big can of fizzy drink with some taps to smaller cans. Got my basic idea down on paper on 10-20 seconds.

Now the hard part started. Got to dig out the palette, grf decoder/encoder. etc. For the reference, the OpenTTD palette for Gimp can be found here: Gimp palettes The Palettes and coordinates page on ttdpatch wiki contains a good overview over where the action colors are located and their respective function.

My results so far:

At the top of the big can there are some random pixels that use actions colors to make the drink a bit fizzy. The drinks coming out of the tap is a bit lighter and this is because that is the only brownness that exist as action colors, so that the stream from the tap gets animated.

After having drawn the stages and tried them out in-game I noticed that there is a minor issue. The tap outer part of the tap appears a few days before the part that is attached to the big can. :-) But hey, it is called fizzy drinks and toyland right?

Another thing I found out was that the first building stage is 2 pixels narrower than the can, but I did not shrink the can, instead I made the first building stage just like a basic construction site.


Any comments or suggestions?

You can make the sprite 2 pixels wider and fix the alignment; you're not forced to use the exact same dimensions as the original graphics.

That would mean I could possible fix the tap issue by placing the entire tap on one of the sprites. Unless some issues with z-order appears.
