In 1265, King Otakar founded the city of Buda at the confluence of two large rivers. The ground plan of the newly emerging city was ingeniously measured by the royal burgrave, with a grid of streets connecting a square square measuring 133 x 137 m. Two churches and a number of burgher houses around the square, including the town hall, were built. The entire city was surrounded by walls with fortress towers and three city gates.

Immediately after its foundation, the city became the power and economic metropolis of the southern regions and a support for royal power. Its privileges were strengthened in the 14th century by King Charles, which is why the city became a center of trade and crafts. Silver mining and coinage in the nearby village of Rolfov also contributed to its wealth.

Industrial development in the 19th century meant many changes in the areas of transport and production. Regional authorities settled in the city and it also became the seat of the provincial court. In 1832, the first horse-drawn railway car, which was the first on the European continent, left the regional capital for the capital of a neighboring state. A pencil factory, enamel factory, tobacco factory and breweries were also established in the city.

The twentieth century brought far-reaching changes in all areas of life. We can find many examples of modern architecture from the 1920s and 1930s here. The population reached almost 100 thousand at the end of the 20th century.

Several universities and colleges were established in the city. In the 1990s, in addition to the regional theatre, several other theatre stages, museums and galleries were established. Tourism increased significantly and the related development of accommodation, restaurant and hotel services. A large number of shopping centres were added. The city became a centre of culture, trade and even an economic centre.

The railway began to develop rapidly from the very beginning and although it was initially used mainly for the transport of various goods, it was also used by people travelling for other experiences, but especially for business trips. Therefore, railway companies began to send trains for the transport of people from all corners of the southern regions. Thus, railway lines from five directions converge in the regional capital. The city station thus grew from a small station to its current form, where the freight station is separate from the passenger station. Even so, both the passenger and freight stations are at the edge of capacity. In the future, it is therefore being considered to transfer the freight station to new premises on the outskirts of the city and to build a large passenger station on newly acquired land.

In 1965, the "Ruhrgebiet" as the industrial heartland of Germany is still bustling with activity, there are coal mines, coke plants, and steelworks all over the place, with the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers in the center.

After the election of the new government, stagnant projects were put into motion and long-delayed projects are finally in progress.
This will bring jobs to many residents and increase the living standards of all residents.

'Central Park' - Heritage Service

Sometimes during special events, heritage diesel locomotives can be seen at the Central Park Station. Hopefully the greenery can put up with the diesel fumes!

Extend closure for another week as I believe Christmas and New Year would have kept some members busy with other things and could have delayed some entries.
