Final edit of subtropical version.
Changes: updated color-scheme, updated orders for trucks and buses, newer bridge at monorail track over the river.

Right, here's my attempt.

Didn't manage to do all I wanted, however as the deadline is Sunday, thought I had better post it now rather then too late.

It features a lot, and the screen shot doesn't really do it justice.

Rubidium, just for you there are some multi-headed steam trains :)

Noise is actually quite good - it seems less then the original despite having more in it.

Screenshot is full size on 1680x1050 - but it is better at 1280x800 range.

Enjoy.

I propose, based on planetmaker's idea, a week "list the best 3" voting period followed by a week where a choice has to be made from the final three.
The first period will be from 14-02-2010 till 21-02-2010 (23:59 UTC), then from 22-02-2010 till 01-03-2010 (23:59 UTC). That gives both a little bit over a week timewise.
Judging by the number of entries this could prove interesting.

I would suggest something more based on the ranking method. People rate each individual entry out of 10. The average is then taken and the three with the highest average get put to a simple vote.

The problem with choosing the best 3 out of 20+ entries is it could be very difficult - and people may just judge it based on the screenshot rather then having a look (so background noise may not get taken into account etc. etc.). Where as with the ranking method, people don't necessarily have to have viewed them all if they don't have time and can just rank the ones the have seen.

Or let me phrase it another way - fair and unbiased, or quick and simple? Either way, it won't be easy choosing the best from so many :)

The ranking method may be also a little bit unfair. For example: if I see that my competitor is gathering more 10/10 votes, I can sabotage him by giving him less valuable vote. Its just example, but think what may happen if plenty of people will act that way.

Good choice would be if jury (admins) will make the first eliminations. They can strike all the absurdal entriees, and leave like 3, 5 or 7 best. Then the voting system would be perfect to indicate winner.
Either way, it won't be easy choosing the best from so many
So my suggestion is to reduce the number of entries by admins before voting.

Yes, a one person sabotage wouldn't matter that much (although a single extreme entry can badly effect an average) - but multiple persons could be...
So my suggestion is to reduce the number of entries by admins before voting.
Glad I'm not one of the devs then :)

For a start the devs have to remove older versions and those that don't conform to the rules. Then they can cut it down to 5-10 entries, methinks.

The submission of entries has been closed now and the voting period has been opened.

The savegames, and screenshots can be found on: http://devs.openttd.org/~rubidium/intro/round1/
For the voting you will have to send an email to me: rubidium@openttd.org . The above link contains an 'email link' that will give you a prepared email that you only have to fill in, please use that.

For the first voting round, contrary to what I have said before, we ask that you grade all 20 games. I know it is a lot of work to grade them, but it should give a fairer view of the entries than giving only a top 3.

I am using Gmail, and the link only directs me to my inbox. Could you please provide us with that email so we can copy-paste it when the link doesn't work?

What do you mean by "grade them"? Should we e-mail you with a list of the best-to-worse intros?

Is it possible to provide another page with same content but with 1680x1050 res as the default?
because i want to compare each of the screen shots in 640x480 and 1680x1050 (small picture vs Big picture)

and the way it right going back an forth its very uncomfortable, thanks.

Yes (for those who click on any link: it's 20+ MB worth of screenshots you'll be downloading)

thanks.

---

its was kinda hard to rate it, i made it in 3 passes:
first pass for 640x480 making sure basics things included etc 0-2 points + 1 for those i really liked.
Second pass for 1650x1050 more more attention to details 0-3 points + 1 for those i really liked.
last path only for high rated giving them aditional 0-3 points based on personal preference only

Why didn't you put an announcement on ottd.org title page? That would surely attract more voters.

Savegame 02: dbg: [ai] The savegame has an AI by the name 'NoCAB', version 336 which is no longer available.
dbg: [ai] The latest version of that AI has been loaded instead, but it'll not get the savegame data as it's incompatible.

Does that matter?

No, the number of AIs that will get started is 0/there are no AIs. It's just configuration for unused AI slots. If the savegame finally makes it I'll do some surgery on the savegame to remove that data.
