That should work very nicely.

It does raise a point of discussion: "feeder" trains. Suppose you've got a railway from coal mine A to coal mine B, and a railway from coal mine B to a power station. The AI also has a railway from coal mine B to the power station. Should the AI be able to haul off the coal that you're bringing in from coal mine A? If so, (how) should you share in the profit?
