It never hurts to try, but imo people are less eager to use any forums these days, unless they are a part of a larger social platform. Because reasons.

A crying shame, forums are objectively the best social media.

100% agreed, I much prefer forum layouts compared to things like Telegram & Discord. Gives me time to hone my dry wit replies finely. My multiple sclerosis damaged brain is now too slow and miswired for immediate replies of substance.

Unfortunately I doubt googling for OpenTTD places these forums in the #1 or 2 result, and realistically speaking i don't know anyone who uses the rest of the hundreds of pages of results. So whilst everyone needs a hobby, so I'm not trying to put you off making videos, sadly i don't really see it doing much for these dear forums ☹️ You could specifically link to tt-forums.net in your videos or video descriptions instead of relying on them to google after your videos, I guess? Probably more wise to link them to JGRs patchpack thread though.

Master Hellish gets about 10k views per video, give or take, which is about the ceiling you can get for the game as dated as OTTD. Especially now, when Transport Fever 3 is on the horizon.

Agreed. There's no algorithm smushing us all together on forums; each and every one of us came here to discuss TTD and its offshoots, and so regardless of our backgrounds we came to do just that.

For me, "TTD" as a game of its own had its "golden age" during the main patch years. Josef Drexler and Oskar Eisemuth were wizards of the time; hammering out features that even OpenTTD trunk has yet to implement (*cough* custom bridgeheads and building on tunnels) nearly 20 years later.

It was fun to see OpenTTD catch up and surpass TTDPatch, and the time between that point and 1.0.0 is the time I would describe as that games golden age; which seems bourne out on the graph actually. It was also the time I was most active as a NewGRF graphics guy. You don't see too many headline features in OpenTTD releases any more; I guess the popularity of patch packs scratch the itch enough that nobody makes the attempt to implement popular features into trunk. Either that or there's still a bit of resistance to changes as there was 17 odd years back.

As for the forum and community it was definitely the period orudge mentions. The old IRC channel was a myriad of in jokes and general tomfoolery.
