After some days have passed, and I've listened to them all. There's only 1-2 contenders i'd say to Bara Badu Bastu. Possibly Austria, but it has a few potentials to go wrong, it will also be hard to stage it as dramatically as the music video, and can they do those vocals on-demand all the time, they're pretty high notes! France is also somewhat striking. Possibly Netherlands is a contender too?

Austria feels like a solid jury favourite, but it's just not going to work with audiences. For one, it might come across as similar to the last winner (even though it is not). Also, the opera just is not that popular. It worked for Nemo, I doubt it will work here where it is more present.

Netherlands I could definitely see getting it right. Albania, with some staging improvements. Other than that, I struggle to find a winner other than Sweden.

Just listened to the Austrian entry for the first time. I like it, but it doesn't have as much power as the recent years' winners had for most of the song, it only gets dynamic when nearing the end. A pity, as it's a bit of wasted potential there. The French one I found a tad tedious. The Dutch one might go far IMO.

By the way, what do you guys think of the Polish one? Personally I find it a yet another embarassing submission of my folks, but maybe I'm overly critical this time.

It's definitely on my lower 50% of the entries this year, but i think the last 5 or so years have been quite rough for Poland though, last years "The Tower" wasn't too bad, but it was sung rather poorly compared to the music video, but that is by far not unique to Poland, the UK has had that issue numerous times. As for this years entry, just on genre it isn't quite my style, I find her singing "alright", but i definitely won't be listening to it after Eurovisions big night, I'm afraid to say.

I think that is what contributed to Nemo's performance last year. He was able to sing it amazingly on note, whilst also managing to do all the staging and running about with careful balancing acts. Quite often on the big night you mess up or don't give a best performance to either vocals, or staging.

So KAJ have recently done an interview with Yleisradio Oy, who appear to be Finlands version of the BBC. They will need to drop one of the dancers (I feel sorry for whomever that is) as you can only have 6 people on stage (this seems lower than before, i could swear I've seen more on in the past?), but they're also planning on using a "more smokes, more lights" than they did in Melodifestivalen. I somewhat hope they don't change it too much, as the setup they had for Melodifestivalen was pretty great, simple but great and suited well.

Oh also there is apparently a swear word that the EBU may desire be changed, although according to KAJ in another interview with hbl.fi (who want me to pay money to read it) they don't seem too fussed at present.
I do apologise to all the people who know Swedish if I have been singing a terrible curse word for a few weeks without knowing

As of this post, the top 5 (in descending order) at the bookies for most UK places is Netherlands, Israel, France, Austria & Sweden whom bookies are throwing a solid (average of) 25% chance of winning at.

In case KAJ does win, I apologize for causing all this because I was in Finland when the swedish final was held.
And they very well have a chance to! Will be interesting to see...

Up to 40% now, which is in line with Loreen back in 2023 and far exceeds what anyone had in 2024

KAJ are also seemingly doing lots of the worldwide (...well europe, I dunno if we ship people to Australia) appearances at varying Eurovision nights, so hopefully they don't mess those up and its a pretty easy win for them.

So the second rehearsal performances have dropped, and good news. KAJ hasn't blown it yet, although the bookies favorites have slipped a little but still hugely in KAJs favor, Austria edging ever so slightly closer.

We only saw the second rehearsals for this years Eurovision, the first set was behind close doors, so here's hoping no hilarity ensured with any entrants.

13, I think! That Top Gear Live thing was in 2012 if I am not mistaken. I did drive across Orust just a few years ago, when my wife and I did a roadtrip around the West Coast. I think we had visited Marstrand/Carlstens Fästning and was heading to Smögen, or vice versa.

EDIT: Yep, that was in 2019 so just pre-Covid. Apparently, according to my Instagram, we visited Varberg, Halmstad, Göteborg, Smögen and Marstrand!

Eurovision week is upon us! Semi finals are of course Tuesday & Thursday, and the big final day for us all will be on Saturday! May the best singers win, and this year be free of drama central.

Interestingly, this year the BBC is playing the semi-finals on their primary channel BBC1. Usually in the past it was relegated to BBC3 and only the final was on the primary BBC1.
Either the BBC has growing confidence in ESC, or they just... forgot to make something else to go there or was like "...well this is going to be made either way so save some pennies, not make anything for a few days and throw that on the main".

Alright, with only an hour to go until it starts. Here's my predictions for Semi-Final 1

All in all, we have (in running order) Iceland, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, Ukraine, Sweden, Portugal, Norway, Belgium, Azerbaijan, San Marino, Albania, Netherlands, Croatia & Cyprus performing tonight.
I predict the lucky 10 to beeee
Sweden (obviously), Netherlands, San Marino, Cyprus, Ukraine, Estonia, Poland, Norway, Belgium and Slovenia
San Marino rarely gets through, but i think this years entry is pretty decent, I'm not certain for either Belgium or Slovenia either

Seemingly also Petra Mede is going to make an appearance, because ain't no one keeping her away from Eurovision.

I'm surprised Poland didn't drop out today As for the rest, I can't complain about the lineup joining the final after this evening. Most of them are at least very good.

Well, guess I need to pack my bags for a different weather. This year Austria triumped! Did not expect that winner, but you know what? Good, it was a good song that won.

Sweden was definitely underrated, especially considering all the hype! I can't complain about Austria's triumph, although I have to admit my boyfriend feels disappointed with what they sang

I am really surprised that Sweden were well over a hundred points of winning, especially given the % win chances we had beforehand.
I also didn't expect Estonia to be a top 5 contender, i'd have give them top 10 for sure. But good news all around, no one left this years event with the dreaded nul point!

It’s a shame the UK (and Switzerland) didn’t get even just a few televote points - that seems rather unfortunate. But we didn’t do too badly, all things considered.

I am so incredibly proud of their performance, even if it was not enough. Political voting almost destroyed the competition, but in the end I think a deserved winner was crowned. I do somewhat dislike that this is the second year in a row the winner was an Opera-pop solo act from an Alp nation. But hey, let us remember the Finns that made Sweden dance.



Shout-out also to the FANTASTIC Icelandic entry. Talk about bringing energy to the stage!
