How are you expecting to add the special colors such as transperancy, signal colors, lights, etc ?
Add a second image with the special colors or something?

Regarding transparency, the new graphics files will be probably PNGs which contain alpha channel so that should be non-issue. Regarding signal colors etc, that's yet a question, but we could dedicate special combinations of colors for that (like various shades of fully transparent purple.. ;)
