Suggestion: Why not combine the Belgian trains into the Dutch set, into one "Low Countries" set. In real life, do they not run over each other's borders sometimes?

Very rarely. There are enough trains in both countries for full sets anyway.

I've been thinking about that too:

pro:

• * the set would be a better competition for the db-set and alpine set of MB. What's the point of investing that much work in 2 small sets when anyone hardly plays it? I'm sure broodje & hyroymus put tons of time in the NS-set, and my belgian set has even more tons of work to do...
  
  * it will be finished sooner, because we won't have to draw as many trains
  
  * it will create a new type of play: dividing the land in 2, each with their own rail network. International trains (in the red-yellow livery) will provide a connection between them

contra:

• * the train colors are too different to mix them, but see point nr.3 of pro for a solution

So I think a benelux-set (=belgie-nederland-luxemburg) would be possible

Why don't you combine them to start with? If you ever get to the point where you have too many trains to fit into one set, then split them.

hmm interesting sugestion. I was planning on making the benelux (the yelow red train mauro was talking about) the thalys could be used aswell. There are enough vehicle slots free I think to join the sets.

one extra contra point could be the fact that both sets have fast trains, and slow trains in the same eara, so it wouldnt ad anything gameplay wise....

So to be honoust I'm not sure what to reply to this sugestion...

(btw the dutch trains run on a diferend voltage as the belgium ones, so there are only 2 trains that can run on both the dutch as the belgium track)

I don't think we'll actually have two different kinds of track, in TTD we'd assume all electric trains can run on the same tracks. It would be an awful pain to do it any other way.

My gut feeling is that both the NS and NMBS/SNCB have enough diverse locomotives/wagons to make a fair set on its own. Just look on the list that I added to this post. That are mainly electric trains, steam locomotives still need to be added (and found first). The NMBS/SNCB has almost the same diversity, stressing diesel locomotives more then electrical though.

Well, if you did out with monorail/maglev you could have rail, dutch elec, and belgian elec....

Hmm. That's an interesting idea, and it would be the first re-use of the "three tracks" potential. I don't know but what it might be confusing, however.

I don't like the idea at all. It's true that we consider all trains able to drive on the same electrified track. I suggest we keep it that way. I think it's best to continue this discussion (if necessairy) in a new topic. We are way off topic now.

going back on topic, here's another belgian loc. the 27xx, it's used for both freight and passenger transport. (see: railway server) I won't be doing any graphics the next few days. social life is calling and i'm going to do some thinking about what trains are going to be in an NMBS/SNCB or benelux set.
