Yes, it was set going down Stoke Bank.

So it was essentially falling down a hill, then?

I'm pretty sure if you run down a hill you'll go quicker than if you use gravity to get down it haha.

I wouldn't count on that :P There's a numbers liveries now are done like that now. Holds up pretty well.

Pretty much. But there was nothing in the rule book saying neither Mallard or 91110 couldn't set a record going down hill so it's our rules, our locos, we win :P

Hmmmmm, What's the Terminal Velocity of a Class 91 I wonder :lol:

Why am I instantly imagining a Top Gear style show for trains and railways...
I'm not sure if such a thing would be exciting or down-right scary.

V_t= Square Root of 2mg Divided by pAC_d

V_t = terminal velocity,
m = mass of the falling object,
g = acceleration due to gravity,
C_d = drag coefficient,
p = density of the fluid through which the object is falling, and
A = projected area of the object.

Find the Appropriate numbers and solve.

Anyway on the subject of 91110, I wish America had trains like this.

Normal or blunt-end first? :lol:

(though based on the actual physics provided by Comm Cody, whichever end is heaviest of course).

I was thinking, put the Loco in a C-17, and release it at say 40,000ft. Drop it out the Back, and see what speed it does! Of Course, a strong Parachute should be deployed at say 5,000 ft :mrgreen: I have some Crazy Ideas.
Also, there is no Denying it'd be scary, a 100 ton Loco falling from 40,000ft with only a bit of Nylon to slow it as it got lower, yeah, pretty Scary

@Comm Cody: I might try to work it out now!
@47434: I imagine the Sloped end would provide less Air Resistance, and It'd probably end up tumbling anyway :lol:
